qotd too late for both, but any varietal or region you haven’t had on the show yet is what I like seeing the most.

QOTD: Don’t know if this is in the comments already, but you should talk to the Woot guys about maybe doing a Launch Day on Wine.Woot! The day the book is released, they could offer it on Wine.Woot – or maybe even on Woot.com itself! Just a thought. ๐Ÿ™‚ Love the show!

QOTD: Part II: Do a wine stemware promo. Buy 2 Big-Ass Tasting glasses get a signed book by Gary. This can be a special store event. Get the book in all wine and chef catalogues or websites–Sur La Table, Williams-Sonoma, Wine Enthusiast, all wine publications, the Spectator, Food and Wine, etc. Team up with local cheese and beef producers for an in-store tasting promo. Make an appearance at one of the many Farmer’s Markets in NJ–Westfield –has many BYOB’s, a cooking school, etc., great retail and unique shops—very food savvy town. Have a Gary V. vs. Gary F.(from Gary’s Wine and Marketplace) do a blind-tasting wine challenge.

QOTD: Hey G.V.–Any time that you put things together for people (i.e. the secret 4-pack, etc.) it excites people. So, summer is around the corner–how about pairing your book with one of the low-priced under $10 wines (or something along those lines). Market the upcoming summer, festival, Fourth of July, Mom’s Day, Dad’s Day, etc. type of themes. I publish books and have a sense about how much they truly cost. The more that you pair your book with anything, people will be eager to purchase. True, it isn’t the holiday gift giving season, but far more explosive are all of the fun summer opportunities that people want to bring a bottle of wine as a hostess gift, etc. Throw in the new G.V. book, and BAM, what a great gift ๐Ÿ™‚

Great Show GV, now to search out some of those Zins…

Qotd: I agree with the idea of Book signing/Blind tasting. Bringing the Thunder live, the personal approach cannot be beat. Also I agree with my fellow Vayniacs, asking for more BC wines….

Loved this show รข?? Zin’s by far my favorite varietal. Now I’ve got a new one to try* and I’ve been spared from blowing 30 bones on the Ridge, which like you, I would have bought simply on past experience.

If you only did Zins on WLTV, you would have at least one happy fan.

*WL doesn’t have the Neyer? Oh, that’s just mean.

  • Hey Gary!

How about featuring some Arizona wines. Page Springs Cellars, Arizona Stronghold and Caduceus are all doing some amazing things with grapes out there in the desert. Check them out. Keep up the great work, sir!

    Cheers,

QOTD2 (redux): I have to echo the call for wines from British Columbia – if you have a chance to get a hold of some, I think it could be some redemption for Canadian wines after the Pelee Island ones that didn’t show so well. If you could get your hands on a Quail’s Gate Family Reserve Pinot Noir…

A reliable selection of quality Canadian wines we will see/should seek out on restaurant wine lists.

Zinny Zin Zin! Great! What do you think about Dry Creek Zins? and is it true that Zins were part of the original Bordeaux grapes. Peace!

  • QOTD:

Some friends of mine had a wine party where they picked about 8 or 9 bottles of wine for us all to try with the only qualification for the wine being that each bottle selected had to be around $20 and have a “cool looking bottle.”

I know a lot of people that pick wines this way, however, I’ve tried many very poor quality wines using this method. Let’s do a show on wines that have cool designs on them that retail for around “20 bones” as you would say. Then, I’ll be able to suggest some for my friends’ next wine party. :o)

  • QOTD-1: Market the book? Let me come up with something, back to you later.

QOTD-2: Always enjoy your “value oriented” shows. VO to me is priced between $12-$20. Domestic REDS would be a great place to start.

    Gary,

I think it would be great to see you do a show on one of my favorite kinds of wine, Port. Love the show, as always.

PS. This is my first comment (another pod cast person comes out of the woodwork)

    Ideas for Shows:
    – Have Kara Hogan (Ellens producer) on the show
    – Ideas for wine tastings at home – what types of wines to try
    – With spring coming – wines to take with a picnic basket

A Cotes Du Rhone episode could be good.

1)Tie ins with the wineries listed in the book

    2) I would like to see you do a repeat tasting of age worthy wines that you have had a year or more ago.

QOTD: Have Vayniacs start an IM or email chain – everyone should send the book info to 3 people they know (maybe with a coupon for free shipping or 10% off or something if they send a receipt to [email protected])

I’d really like to see an episode on the Napa cult wines. Are they even worth the astronomical prices they charge? Are there wines that bring as much thunder for half, a quarter or tenth the price?

This comment will answer both QOTD,

I think that you should do a little video about the essence of the book. From your point of view, why is it so good, why should we buy it? What inspired you to write it? What is the main thrust of the book? What does the book offer that your free online videos don’t?

I am a fairly new vaniac and although I have been watching the past couple of weeks, I’m not quite a fanatic. I’m not gonna buy the book just because you want me to, I want to know more about the book than Amazon can tell me.

QOTD: Somehow, some way, get yourself on Oprah. I’m not a fan but I know the lady can sell books! Plus, I think the two of you would have a great rapport.

Suggestion of the week: I think it would be fun to see you do some blind tastings and see how you do identifying varietal, location, producer, etc.

    Keep up the great work!

QOTD1: I agree with another of the Vayniacs (Donna Marie) regarding distributing the book, i.e. make it part of a secret pack and include the book.

QOTD2: I’d love to see a port or ice wine tasting in the near future.
