The first book should definitely be given to someone in your family. Maybe to your wife and Gary junior. Maybe the second one to someone’s favorite charity. Could bring a bunch of money for a good cause.

What a neat show. That matzah looks like papadums (Indian). Recc? Uh, plant your corn early. No, stay sweet.

  • QOTD: Give a shout-out to the Midwestern wineries who are doing some good stuff. Oliver Winery near Indianapolis (Bloomington, IN), is a fine example of a very under appreciated wine maker. This country has so much to offer and it would be great to see some of the smaller wineries get some recognition on your show. If you want to sample some of their wine, hit me up and I will send some your way.

I love a new Washington state find. Good Friday G-Man.

QOTD: I recommend Tandem wines and just about anything else coming from Greg LaFollete. He’s an incredible winemaker, and viticulturist. Please please put’em on a show.

QOTD: I recommend hot dog, tortilla, and cheese. Delicious!!! You broil or grill the hot dog, slice it in two lengthwise and put it on a tortilla, lay down some sharp cheddar, broil til the cheddar melts, pour on some hot sauce, and you are in heaven. I’m going home to eat 3 of those right now. YUM!!

QOTD: I recommend you have more guests. Yesterday’s guest had a great personality that really perked up the show. Also, it’s interesting to see what a less experienced person sniffs and tastes vs you because they’re probably more like me.

My wife, both dogs and I like the 2005 Cabernet sauvignon and the 2005 chardonnay that was aged in stainless steal. They were made by The Winery at Eagle Knoll. The winery has changed it’s name to Wood River Cellars, the managment and the person that makes the wine has all changed (what ever you call that person). So, I don’t know how things are going to be.

QOTD: For a show, I would suggest a beer and cheese pairing episode. After all, beer is the better accompaniment to cheese (this according to many cheese mongers and Janet Fletcher, cheese expert/author, WINE drinker, and wife of a wine maker.

Greets from Seattle; we miss you already, man! Oh yeah, you want a recommendation, so here’s one of the most surprising wines I’ve tasted since I was just a kid, sipping Mogen David with the family at the end of the week back in the ’60s: St Julian Michigan Light Solera Cream Sherry, made in that wine capitol of the world, Paw Paw, MI. Made of 100% Niagara, a grape from which you’d expect the wine to taste like stale Jelly Babies at best. But this stuff is heaven, straight up, the best sherry from outside of Spain. Zero foxiness that I can detect, though it’s a mystery how they can achieve it. I actually mail-ordered a case direct from Paw Paw! You want a more conventional recommendation? How about Facelli Winery’s Columbia Valley Merlot? I’ve been drinking Lou Facelli’s wines almost since he first opened up shop in Woodinville (home of Chateau St Michelle) more than 20 years ago. Of all his wines, it’s his merlots that are to die for. I haven’t tried the current releases yet, but he’s been batting 1.000 for so long that I’d be startled if the streak doesn’t continue.

I recommend a 2000 Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf-du-Pape. I am sorry I drank mine without checking that it tripled in price from the time I bought to the time I drank and it was awesome.

GV … you have got to get your hands on some Nini Negri “5 Stelle” Sfurzato from Valtellina in Lombardy. It is a passito-style wine made from 100% Nebbiolo and it seriously bring the thunder with its powerful fruit and charming elegance.

Not such a weird show…so how did the wines go with the matzoh? I’d recommend the 2005 Syrah from the Ranchita Canyon Winery in Paso Robles. It’s their first effort and awesome!
