Good show – I look forward to getting to try some cornas wines in the near future!

Good show/good topic – again featuring the not so common wines. Love the Crozes-Hermitage myself. Will have kick it up a notch all roll the Cornas soon.

QOTD: Keep keeping it real and keep up with the honest evaluations – that’s all we ask…

Gary, just wanted to say I’m hooked on your show. You consume my lunch break everyday. Right now with rasing a family the most I can spend on a wine is 20 BONES so I really enjoy the shows that have bottles under my budget.I would love to see you do a few more shows on spirits and maybe some bourbons.

Thanks for all your hard work.

qotd- just keep bringin’ it man!(and maybe figure out how to ship to Georgia some day:)
BTW- I’m part of the displaced Norwegian contingent- ha!
We don’t have a very extensive selection in this little corner of the world, and I’ve only been paying attention to what I’m tasting since I stumbled across your show around Thanksgiving, but thanks to you I’ve not bought the same wine twice since then.
    THANKS GARY!

QOTD: Uh…just keep doing it?? I especially love the education on the French wines because to a neophyte, they’re pretty mysterious, not knowing all the regions and AOCs and the varietals used, etc…

  • Great show! I am a HUGE fan of Cornas; it’s just too bad they cost so much. Last year my local store had tons of the 2000 Cave de Tain L’Hermitage Cornas les Nobles Rives, so I gave it a whirl… MAN did it blow me away! Granted the Cave de Tain L’Hermitage is a massive co-op, but this wine KILLS it (93-94 points to me and most on cellartracker). Best of all, they wanted $15 a bottle! For AGED Cornas! I am kind of pissed at myself for only picking up 15 bottles, because it totally rules. And even that one, at 7 years old (at the time), needs about 4 hours in the decanter to really open up. I’ve since acquired a bottling of the 1995 and 1990 of the same, so look to have a fun 5 year vertical soon. This will also hopefully give me some insight into how my 2000 will age. The last one you tasted today sounds cool… you should put your magnums of it on free.winelibrary.com 🙂

Shout outs… This reminds me of why I never ask for one. Getting out of hand.

QOTD: Shelling out the wine knowledge is what I love so much about WLTV… sometimes that focus seems lost and I almost miss episodes as a result, but I love watching episodes where you actually TEACH us something about the wine, not just talk notes and shout outs. It’s true, I don’t necessarily care if you love or pan a wine, so I don’t listen to your notes at all at times. 🙂 I literally tune out when you talk about some wines I have no interest in… but when you start talking about interesting things about the wine, THAT’s when I get engaged. So, please keep up the knowledge, and not just the opinion! Thanks,

    David

QOTD: Possibly tasting wines from other regions of the US. Not where the are made, but where they are distributed. I have yet to find a wine in my area (Houston) that you have tried because they are only distributed up there. I have purchased some from Wine Library, but many that were really good are sold out by the time I get to listen and attempt to buy.

Now I just listen for the knowledge, and if the selection doesn’t peak my interest, I pass on the episode.

Keep up the good work, because you have made me appreciae wines mush more than I ever did in the past. For that I say thanks!!!

QOTD: I’ve always been a bit of a novice wine lover – knowing just enough to be dangerous. Wine library has beed educational, fun, and a bit of adventure. I think Wine Library could spend more time on Oregon wines and maybe schedule events around the country. I firmly believe with enough advanced scheduling, these could be beneficial and with admission plus wine sales could easily fund themselves. Just a thought.

Oh, and Wine Library could send me a flipping wristband!!!!! 😉

  • Doug from New Orleans

QOTD Keep bringing the thunder! Thanks!

    Gary –

Episodes like yesterday and today are exactly why I love and watch your show. I had not heard of Gruner or Cornas, and I doubt my local wine shop carries it b/c I’ve been all over that place. Thanks for bringing the thunder big time! How ’bout a big shout out to GV for educating this Vayniac! I will add these to my wish list and hope to buy/cellar them soon. As always, thank you for the education Gary. And I will try to lurk less and comment more. Cheers!

Thank you for the kicking show Gary and Mott. I appreciate all of your hardwork.

QQTD: I am definitely going to show up but my Amazon books don’t get in till the 19th.

Bounce: I will definitely show up on 05/12. Can’t wait to see all the other Vayniacs.

QQTD: It might be a good idea to bring a map on sometimes for us that might now the specific region you are refering to. That way we have a better idea.

QOTD: What can your vodcast do for me/for us viewers? Hmm . . . . Wine is a BIG thing. Some guy can rate wine all day long, every day for years, and still not exhaust the incredible range of the subject. So most wine aficionados tend to focus. Like the guy in the movie Sideways who refuses to taste Merlot. Me, I’d say that 80% of the wines I’ve drunk in the past decade have been in the same dozen categories: California Zins, Oregon Pinots, Tawny Ports, Vinho Verde, NZ Sauv Blanc, etc. But if you get too honed in on a few wines, you palate starts to flatten pretty quickly. So I’ve consciously set out to challenge myself with new varietals and regions. Just today, it was Sancerre and Monastrell that I put on my shopping list. OK, well, what I most appreciate and respect about your show is that you do taste the Top Ten wines on the American market, sure, but you also make a special point to introduce wacky things too. I mean, who drinks Cornas, man? Just you, at this stage of the game, but we all should! Have you done a Lirac show? I bet you will, soon enough. Madeira? You’ll get around to it. The day will come when you even do a show on vinifera hybrid varietals. And by doing shows of both these types, the mainstream and the challenging, you will, indeed, change the wine world (whether they like it or not).
