EP 457 Vernaccia Wines From Italy, Another White Wine To Pay Attention To.

Vernaccia is another classic white wine that is overlooked by so many as they focus on the 1 or 2 white wines they drink from Italy. I hate to pick on Pinot Grigio but I want people to expand their palates.

Wines tasted in this episode:

Fontaleoni Vernaccia Di San GimignanoVernaccia di San Gimignano
2006 Sovestro Vernaccia Di San GimignanoVernaccia di San Gimignano

Tried quite a few of these Vernaccia bad boys when I was on my hold last year. Idyllic place and gorgeous wines. Very difficult to find them back here in Ireland.

GREAT show today GV! I left a comment a couple of weeks ago expressing my love for Vernaccia di San Gimignano – don’t know if you saw it, but I’m going to think it was me who influenced you to do the Ver-nah-chee-uh show today…

QOTD – What wine have you had that the grapes were grown the farthest north of the equator?

Will see you in Chi. for your book tour.

QOTD: How you would react from a business sense to the pending doom that is nationwide shipping laws? Would you consider something like wine.com where they set up small shops within certain state borders thus making them legal in that state? 2 quesions…sorry.

  • Wandered over here after hearing you on basic brewing radio. Love that your challenging people to try new things and break out of the rut.

QOTD: In the archives you’ve mentioned you see big things from the snake river valley (my stomping grounds). What will define the area?

seriously though, what’s the best way to bring our friends and loved ones that aren’t into web2.0 up-to-speed? i feel like when you ‘get it’ you’re life is greatly improved and i want that for my friends and family, but even after explaining it, some just will never move to gmail or start using rss or join linkedin or twitter. do we let them fall behind or do we even have a choice?

You could swing by Burlington (VT) on your book tour, or even somewhere in NH?

You have got to stop taunting Mott about not having a t-shirt & just make him one! Maybe, “Mott, clean it up!” w/ a picture of The Stain! 😀

QOTD: Probably I would ask you something about your family.

  • Christian

Would love to see you in St. Louis Gary!

QOTD: If you had to go to one part of United States and Canada to tour wineries, where would it be and why?

QotD: It would be any mishmash combination of these questions:

“Wait, hold up a minute — aren’t YOU driving?”
“Do you see any car keys on me, man?”
“So dude, should we hold a bet on who’s got the next round?”
“What’s the absolute worst wine you’ve ever had in history?”
“Could I try some of that?”

Gary, I’ve been a bit of a lurker for the last several months but I still love the show and I’m a big fan! Great work. Here’s the question I’ve been meaning to ask since the first show…

QOTD – WHY DOESN’T WINE EVER JUST SMELL LIKE GRAPES OR WHY IS THE WORD “GRAPES” NEVER USED AS A DESCRIPTION?

Surely there must have been 1 or 2 simple wines over the last 457 shows that you sniffy sniffed that must have just smelled like “grapes”. Why can’t anyone just admit it? Why is it taboo to just say, “hey, this wine just smells like sour grapes and alcohol” or “Wow, over ripe Concords on the nose” …We would know what you mean. It would seem eveyone trys to find any flavor or smell to describe wine but always overlooking the obvious.
Time to add a bowl of grapes to Extensive Palate Training 101! Come on, I dare you to use “smells like Grapes” in a description!
