  • QOTD: The last one that I remember was from Colvin, out of Walla Walla. It was a while ago, but I remember it being pretty good.

An idea… You should have a mini American flag under your table so you can have that in one hand with your 2X4 (the over-oaked wine) in the other to really represent Hacksaw JD.

    Good show.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing when you sniffed the Y Toro. I wondered if it would be too veggie even for you.

QOTD — I’ve had it in some blends, but the last 100% was the 2003 Concha Y Toro, actually, which I was not impressed by.

    Great show Gary!

My last Carmenere was a Concha Y Toro, but I had a little more luck with it than you did (it was a Casillero del Diablo lable). From the sounds of things, it was like an imaginary mix between the Errazuriz (defintiely oaked) and the conha y toro (a little green) you tried today…

  • The last Carmenere I had was the Natura 2006 vintage and I liked it quite a bit. I’ve been looking for others to try but unfortunately, the wine selection in my part of the world is pretty laughable and WL can’t ship to TN 🙁

QOTD: Concho Y Toro Casillero del Diablo Carménère. . . enjoyed it alot. About $11 per bottle (if I recall correctly), with hints of chocolate, tobacco and blackberry.

  • QOTD – I have never had a carmenere but after to reaction to the veg flavors in the Concha Y Toro Carmenere I have to seek it out just to experience it.

P.S. Nice work on TV in the last week. Informative and hilarious!

The last Carmenere I had was by Origin which is an Albertson’s house brand. It was a 2004 and wasn’t bad. I liked it enough to purchase 2 more bottles which are stored at home. Other Carmeneres I have are 2005 Vina Requingua Puerto Viejo Reserve, Concha y Toro Casillero del Diablo, Hacienda Altavina which is a Fresh & Easy brand.

I have never tried a Carmenere, but next time I’m out buying wine I will likely seek out and try a bottle.

Also, I’m waiting on your autographed book to arrive from Woot! Gary, have you got all 1000 books signed yet?

I can’t say as I remember but will put it on the list of things to do.
Where does that “Oak Monster” come from, BTW? The barrel, the chemistry set or
the terroir? The oaks growing on the land?
