Qotd:Can’t pick 1 but the Lucien Albrecht Cuvee romanus is a helluva QPR. I’d pay double the price for it

Great show Gary! Thanks so much for everything you do.

QQTD: I have had a Pinot Grigio. I really enjoy their clean crispness. I have only had Italian Pinot, but I am really excited to try different areas.

A battle for the ages! Can’t France win something for a change?!?

QOTD: The only Pinot Gris I’ve ever had was from Oregon, and I can’t even recall the name because it was Blah!

Antwerpen (Belgium) is only 400 km from the Alsace. I had some of my first wine-holidays there as a student. Many budget friendly wines. So I had a whole lot of Pinot Gris. I did not taste Trimbach or Zind Humbrecht yet but I did taste and like Kreydenweis a lot.

  • Badger Ann

QOTD: I’ve tried Pinot Gris from Oregon. It wasn’t very memorable. I’d be willing to try one from Alsace.

Pinot Grigio has never impressed me, to be honest. I think there are much better whites similar in weight out there – I’ll usually reach for an albarino, sauvignon blanc from NZ, or German riesling instead.

The last two I remember were the ever popular Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio. I don’t remember the vintage. For the QPR it does not bring the thunder.. and the Kris Pinot Grigio was a better deal price wise for the quality.. I’v never really been into this varitial, however I’ve never had one from Alsace..

Well, it wasn’t straight P. Gris, but I just had a 2000 Grunspiel from Marcel Deiss, and it was incredible. Of course I think there was more Riesling and Gewurz than P. Gris.

QOTD: I don’t recall ever having a Pinot Gris. Definitely gonna try one (or both) of these out… IF I CAN FIND THEM!

Another shoutout for the Broken Lizard tee!!!

GV the shorter ep format is nice on occasion. Sometimes we run out of time also and it just works.

    QoTd
2006 Chateau St. Michelle Pinot Gris, subtle nose, melon green apple taste, med body, good food wine.
(?) Coppola Pinot Grigio, nose light melon, soft and fruity, tast crisp green apple (paired with arugula and prosciutto salad)

QOTD: Nope, never had a pinot gris.

QOTD: 2006 King Estate – The wife is a big New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc drinker, but she loves this and I must admit that it is quite good. I bought all the had at the local World Market.

QTD: My favorite inexpensive pinot grigio was Ecco Domani pre-2004, but the later vintages give me a headache even after just a few sips. I liked it because it was really light and fruity in the beginning but it had a real bite at the end. I have not found another that I like but I am trying.

QOTD: I have not tried many Pinot Gris..but there is one that I like very much… (Just left for 10 mins. looking for the bottle!)
Its ANCIEN / Carneros / Sangiacomo Vineyards I love the peach and honey and subtle acidity of this wine…
I think I will try the Binner
    🙂

  • QOTD: The last Pino Grigio I had was a 2005 Lorenzon Rive Di Giare Pinot Grigio. Didn’t care much for it but that was awhile back.

I have not had one to my recollection, but I have recently added one to my cellar that I need to open soon. One of the great things about the show is it gets me psyched to try new wines.

The best pinot gris I have had recently is the King Estate Pinot Gris, 2006, Oregon.

  • Gary, despite that you’re in a fruity mood, I’ll answer the QOTD: Best Pinot Gris I’ve had is… I haven’t had a “best” one. My sister served Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, but what’s there to say about that? Someday I’d like to try an example from Oregon or Alsace.

    qotd: do not recall

what about a bordeaux vs. a super tuscan?
