qotd: Not a big sports fan, but having seen this with my Dad on dvd and hearing it referenced over the years many times, I’m going with the the 1958 National Football League Championship game on December 28th that went into sudden death overtime between the Colts and the Giants. Baltimore took what I’ve heard many times referred to as the single greatest football game ever played.

QOTD: I was at the old Yankee Stadium in the ’50’s when Mickey Mantle homered off the top of the facade in right field. I loved his home run trot around the bases.

I am desperate for good, inexpensive summer white wines. I will seek out Gavi.

QOTD: 1984 Torvill and Dean ice dancing to Bolero – 12 perfect 6.0 scores. I just rewatched it on UTube. Yes, ice dancing is a sport. And Scott Hamilton winning the 1084 Olympic Gold medal – what a year.

Not a conspiracy theorist typically…but Gary loses a lot of cred with me with what everyone is referring to as this ‘cliffhanger.’ This is not a marketing ploy with some novel Lost/Sopranos style ending…something is up.

My guess is wine #5 was a wine he shouldn’t have bagged as hard as he did…and he’s trying to think of how to reverse things.

Gary – keep in mind that your viewers expect uncensored and unbiased wine critiques. No matter who it upsets.

You lose sight of this and you’ve lost me.

qotd: I was playing in an intramural basketball league for my organization, the hispanic business student’s association. The president handed me the ball above the top of the key and I made a three pointer, probably the only shot I took. I just loved that feeling and the trust. I wasn’t that great but I was feeling it that day. All the other ones are Spurs/Manu Ginobili related but this isn’t NBA.com so I won’t mention them.

  • I tasted the Villa Sparina 2005 in Rome.. it was great. No white chocolatey smell?

Favorite sports memory has to be the 04-05 Elite 8 game between Illinois and Arizona. The comeback was just amazing. Down 15 with 4 to go, winner goes to the F4. What a finish.

QOTD: Couple months ago, in the last few seconds of regulation, Mario Chalmers sinks the three point shot and ties up the 2008 NCAA Championship game, eventually leading the Jayhawks to a stunning overtime victory. Much jubilant chaos ensues on the streets of a little college town called Lawrence, KS.

I just got a new job selling wine in a retail store. Every show I watch is like going to wine school. I feel like I owe you a tuition check for schooling me to the wine game. You’re the man!

QOTD: 1999 Tour De France, Stage 9, Lance Armstrong’s win atop Sestrière. We had all watched the first week in his comeback from cancer, as a completely new rider. He won the time trial in Metz the day before and people realized his prologue win wasn’t a fluke, but to conquor in the mountains meant he was the real deal, and just may be one of the great ones. He took the lead that day, I believe and was confirmed as one of the great talents in suffering on two wheels.

  • Bought the book today for my dad for father’s day.

QOTD: Game 4 Boston@New York, American League Championship. I would have to say that whole game.

Or my Seahawks making it to the Superbowl…and then going on to lose it… 🙁

  • Gavi di Gavi, I have a Principessa Gavia 2006 Gavi waiting for a nice summer weekend this year, hope it’s closer to the Martinetti than the other two 🙂

QOTD – Sports moment? I suppose it was watching (on TV)the Champion’s League final in 2005. Liverpool beat Inter, this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpT9n_6DEqY) says it all. My friend Murat was in the stadium in Istanbul and got to hold the Cup.

    Best ever!

QOTD: For me, personally, it was about 3 years ago when I beat my best 10K time (cross-county running) in a road race for charity, in the coldest, rainiest, windiest weather imaginable, and won first place in my age group. My parents were so proud, the hard work had paid off, and there’s nothing like the feeling of complete fatigue and exhaustion after sprinting as fast as possible after 6 miles.

i need to start hitting up the italiano bianco. i normally hang in france and well france for the whites. i have been picking up some italian and swiss whites as of late, thank you. when you live in Fr, that is what you drink : ), anyhoo, looks good.
QOTD: i was more into sports when i was younger, so those moments land there. i got a 3rd place in a big ski race ( giant slalom) when i was 14. and that was out of left field. i had no idea would do that well. I also played soccer from when i was 7 to 16. i always played ” D ” but one game i took a direct kick from near the mid field and i scored! it surely helped us win the game which was real tight and the best team in the league. it was the bomb

I donâ??t know Gary, maybe you need to refund all the big bucks the wine whiners pay you for the right to watch your show. I still suspect youâ??re just playing with us, but if Mott says thatâ??s not the case, out of respect, I must put aside my suspicion.

QOTD: We Philly fans have a bigger collection of heart breaking moments. Iâ??m not so much a basketball or hockey fan. I was too young in 1960 to appreciate the last time the Eagles were NFL champs. So my highlight was when the late Tugger got the final out of the 1980 World Series and the losingest team in the history of sports became world champs.

  • QOTD: Calling Joe Carter’s Home run in the (’92 or ’93) world series. I was 10 at the time, watching it with my parents and said, wouldn;t it be awesome if Joe Carter hit a home run to win it? During that at bat…BAM!

  • QOTD: High school soccer: A kid on the other team and I were running towards each other full speed, and I don’t think he saw me. In the last second, I jumped straight over him (he was a little guy).

I love Italian whites but I’m sad to say I haven’t tried a Gavi. I will remedy that situation on my next wine buying mission.

QOTD: Being at Busch Stadium with my wife and two daughters when the Cardinals won the 2006 NLCS. I had been to playoff and World Series games before, but having my family with me made this one the most special.
