  • Hey Gar, what’s up with the Nebraska farm reference? Just an fyi there are actual cities in the state, not just farmland. QOTD: never have heard of Lagrein. And thanks to Kristen for inspiring me to post a comment today.

  • Strykette

Gary, you hit the nail on the head, this is WLTV at its best, introducing new horizons and expanding our palate (eg. wine pallette). Thanks!

  • I’ve got to say i haven’t had a Lagrein… i’ll go grab one this weekend…

Gary, great show. i am one of the lurkers you’re looking for, but i drink only Kosher wines. Do you have any suggestions for a Kosher lagrein, i’ve never heard of it before, as you predicted.
Keep up the good work, and thanks for a great show.

  • Araldite

    Never heard of it.

Total Wine in my town has two – Kupelwieser Lagrein Alto Adige ($18) and Cantina Tramin Lagrein ($20). Next time I’m there I’ll pick one up.

QOTD: Never even HEARD of it!

Did you hear that Gary? That was the sound of a lurker coming out. First comment ever.
And I have to say a big ups to you my man, stumbled across WLTV on Hulu a couple of weeks ago, and you have ignited a passion in me. I’m only 22, but I thought I was done with wine. I bought the cheap stuff when I hit 21 and HATED it. Figured all wine must be similar, and wrote it off. Then I watched my first episode of WLTV. I wasn’t convinced, but after the box wine show I had to go try some bandit pino. And I liked it. Just picked up a bottle of Franciscan 2004 Merlot from costco… I’m in love. Kinda rambling, but I just can’t say enough.

THANK YOU GARY! You singlehandedly made wine fun.

[de-lurk] QOTD – had Lagrein in a blend from Alois Lageder. Brought some heavy funk – kickin’ it Bootsy style.

Drinking a Refosco right now….why don’t you keep it rolling with a Refosco show. [/re-lurk]

Nope, and I doubt any of the shops in my town carry it. I’ll ask when I go to refill my win fridge.

Great episode, I’ll be sure to stop and check if my local wine shop carries a Lagrein.

Love the reference of former Badger and Madison, WI native Al Toon.

Never had one. I see it’s a northern red wine and related to the Syrah grape. Anything like a northern Rhone in taste and nose?

I have never had a lagrein. It doesn’t sound like a wine I would like. Too dark and tannic. But…never say never. If I run across one, and it’s affordable, I just might try it.

QOTD: Man this is why I LOVE WLTV! Never heard of a Lagrein, looked in two of my BEST wine books, The Wine Bible by Karen MacNeil and The World Atlas of Wine by Hugh Johnson, NOT A REFERENCE TO IT IN EITHER!!!!! I love trying new varietals and will check here where I live but seriously doubt they will have one! GREAT SHOW!

Hey GV. No Lagrein so far. Do like Italian wines and eager to try more. Yes, I am a lurker but the blindtastings are bringing me out. Here in Alberta wine selection is mass market driven, not sure if any are available.
