Interesting video! ? I like the idea of mailing list wines. Do you think they’re worth the wait for new wine lovers ?

  • Nope. Although, I did just sign up for Black Kite! Which I don’t know how useful that is living in MA. My Dad passed away in 1975 but I will think of him on Sunday while watching the game.
ps: Stop hating on the Celtics :-). They are SO AWESOME. & Please stop with the loose punt jokes OMG.

The book is at Sam’s? I was there earlier in the week and did not see it. If I find it there later, I will pick up a copy.

Great show! This should be considered a classic!

Killer episode….good to see you all fired up over some good wines. I’m not on any mailing lists because I don’t think they’d do me much good seeing as I live in Japan. Cool idea though. 🙂

gary, i can say that this was the best show in some time…. maybe since jeffrey davies, which BTW was the best show. i get the the $13 dollar and below wine shows, BUT, this is what we are talkin’ about. serious wines, low production, hand crafted, lots of love, no BS. maybe CA is the place to start. how about some form oregon, washington state > piedmont…. discovery is the thing with wine.
you talk about trusting ones palate, but you know like me, that the wine world is dependent on recommendations. music can be listened to before buying it. wine is sealed in a bottle.
i am going to search out the black kite. price is good and the wine sounds good to. the cabs don’t seem to be my cup o tea.
GOTD – not really. i buy wine from chat quercy in st emilion. they do not have a “mailing list” but they do make about 1200 cases a year and we get it from the chateau .
    again, rock n roll today.
ps wuz up with the 80 comments today???? great show, not a huge response, sad. maybe by monday it will be more respectable.

Gary, four words, “I”m a fan”. But this episode rock my world. Don’t know but the way you describe, disect, autopsy, (pardon my lex)wines, makes it more understandable a fun for me. Besides, it is a learning experienece, for sure. I’ll see the Black Kite and Flemings no doubt. Keep up, please.

As a 72 year old wino I keep telling myself to slow down the buys. I am now on mailing lists for:
    Aubert
    Tor Kenward
    Long Shadows
    Domaine Serene
    Hundred Acre
Now, thanks to you, I have signed on to Black Kite cellars also and may leave nothing to my children (except an excellent cellar). J. Craven

    Thanks Gary, great show, great looking wines. I think I have had a Hewitt (not 2005). VERY powerful. Apology accepted from a couple days back! ;-}

QOTD: I belong to quite a few mailing lists and a few clubs. I enjoy the information and offerings they send although I haven’t yet ordered from many of them. There are several I joined after Gary reveiwed one of their wines on WLTV.

Shafer, Viader, Darioush, Nickel and Nickel, Ridge, Whitehall Lane, Continuum, Garrick, Corra, Gemstone, Rocca Family, Vineyard 29, Crocker-Star, Adastra, Vintners Collective, Saxum, John Duval (Austrailia), Pommum, Futo, Bucklin, Arietta, Keever, Kapcsandy and even Ovid!

I added Hewitt, Fleming and Arnod Roberts today!

BJ’s is tough because they just stack their books on a long table… not a great way to get exposure! Too bad there’s no Winelibrarytv DVD yet because of that had a display playing on a television WITH the book I think you’d catch some attention. It’s a friggin’ warehouse for god’s sake… tough break.

QOTD: I am on some wine mailing lists… I feel like I rarely get mailings though! Bonny Doon is the most regular one with Maynard James Keenan’s being another one that I recall. There was a wine mailing list you mentioned a while back that I joined but I haven’t gotten anything from them yet.

Why not come to Anderson Valley when you’re out here for your SF show??? It’s only a few hours out and the tasting would be WELL worth your time.

QOTD: I’m on several mailing lists, but they’re all local Sierra Nevada foothill wineries that don’t have widespread distribution and few people outside of the area have ever heard of them.

A little off topic… The Black Kite sounds really good, but I’m a little bit bothered by the dishonest appeal to emotion on the label. The black-shouldered kite (now known as the white-tailed kite) is not endangered. Though populations were low in the early 1900’s, their numbers have rebounded since the 40’s and they are now widespread and quite common. They are not on any federal or state threatened or endangered species (TES) lists.
