Interesting video! ? I like the idea of mailing list wines. Do you think they’re worth the wait for new wine lovers ?

QOTD: No, unfortunately not. But: There is a shop in Austria (where I’m from) that gets an unreasonably big share of “Sine Qua Non” bottles every year (Krankl is originally Austrian and the shop owner and him must be buddies or something. And they are even nice enough to resell the stuff at the original prices. As a matter of fact, I’m popping a bottle of “Papa” Syrah for father’s day (and no, did not spend a fortune on it).

Wow Gary good picks for this show, quick question, on the Hewitt, do you think with a few more years in bottle, the oak becomes more subtle and other good things might come from it?

No mailing lists yet, gotta ship the wine to FLA. where a forwarding service sends it down to CR…

you know, frankly, I was thinking you are missing one thing in your wonderful life… KIDS!!! mine are precious (2 boys, 11 and 9) and they are simply the best. Hope to congratulate you next year on Father’s Day!!

QOTD: I’m on mailing lists for several wine shops but no wineries. I can’t have any wine shipped to PA. I figure what’s the point of signing up. But things may change some day. I’ll think about signing up.

  • That was a killer show!

Question of the Day: what winery mailing lists am I on? I think I’m on six. Bright Kite and Kelly Fleming as of this morning, plus four favorites based in Woodinville Washington (Facelli, Chatter Creek, Columbia Winery, and Pomum).

It’s possible that I’m still on the lists for Girardet in Roseburg Oregon (Umpqua Valley), Elk Cove in Gaston Oregon, and Amity in Amity Oregon (these last two both in the Willamette Valley), but just didn’t get any mailings from them this year so far. So I’m heading back to their sites in a minute to re-sign up.

QOTD: Showket Vineyards. They make a blend called Asante Sana that is just gorgeous. Have to go get on the Black Kite and Hewitt lists now, the boyfriend loves those big oaky cabs, 😀

Completely unrelated to this ep, I had my first Chateauneuf du Pape last night while out at dinner. Um…wow. I’m very sad I didn’t listen to Gary sooner.

While today’s, (actually yesterdays), wines are a bit out of my pricing, non the less it was another enjoyable show. QOTD…………………Z E R O. We have some great wine shoppes in my area, (DC-Metro), and I do receive (at least) weekly E-mails regarding their wines, and winerys, both nationally and internationally. Seems to work at the present time.

A classic show – truly. It had balance, depth, complexity, frivolity and humanity. I think it comes across when you review wines that interest you as opposed to stuff that most people can afford. For sure, I can see there’s real value in the latter but, speaking as someone who cannot ordinarily find any of the stuff on your show without ordering a case, I enjoy watching most when you’re enjoying yourself.

On the mailing list front, it’s not something that seems like much of an option in the UK but I did go on a waiting list last year to get a six pack of Bald Hills Central Otago Pinot 2005. Other than that, just enjoyed a nice bottle or Riesling. Not my usual thing but went down well – particularly with the Mrs.

    One love – a.

Love the mailing list shows – HUGE value, keep ’em coming.

QOTD: I probably actively purchase from 5 or so mailing lists, and am on the waiting lists for another 10-15. Some of the lists (active and wait) include:

    Ovid
    Williams Selyem
    Schrader
    Kosta Browne
    Carlisle
    Black Kite
    Ketcham

so so so many, hard to remember

Gary — “Hello” from a lurker. Very great show today.
QOTD: Too many … KostaBrowne, Scarecrow, Arcadian, Rhys/Alesia, Sojurn, Sea Smoke, Ovid.
My idea for flogging the book sales: ask Eric LeVine to add a book-specific link to CellarTracker(R). It is a partner-site of yours, after all.

  • I’m on a lot of mailing lists including Turley, Tensley, Prager Ports, Ferrari Carrano, and the Phillips Pinot Noirs you mentioned sometime back. I wish I could say happy father’s day to my dad but it has been 7 years since I could do that.

Awesome show Gary – really great idea! I’d be curious to see a mailing list show with the super cult wines of Napa – Harlan, Araujo, Screaming Eagle, Colgin since I’m sure you can get your hands on them where us mere mortals cannot 😉 Always wondered if those wines were worth the price tag

QOTD: I’m on Pride, Papapietro, Vinoce and a few others.

  • I Hate Yoy Gary

Why do you continue to rate wines that are hard to get: Sea Smoke, Boudreaux, Phillips Hill now Black Kite and Fleming. You are not doing the wine community any service. It was hard enough to get these wines without you blabbing about them now itâ??ll be impossible to buy cases.

Please please please keep you tastings to stuff with at least 100,000 cases. But more importantly stay away from anything with less than 1000 cases produced or I will launch a boycott against you and WL.

QOTD: Sea Smoke, Harlan, Colgin, Black Kite, Leviathan and Fleming. Donâ??t get any ideas about Colgin and Harlan I will personally hunt you down and punch you.
