  • Not a bad show, respect for the donations.

QOTD – Enjoying a bottle of Tokaji Aszu with my parents, appreciating its wondeful flavour and also that it is made in my fathers home country.

  • PaVo

QOTD: Wine trips with my father. Especially the last one through France, hit Cahors, Gailliac, Languedoc, Gigondas, Crozes (and Hermitage), Cornas and St. Joseph.

The best part was driving through the last four tasting wines at the vineyards and driving up to the top of Crozes looking down over Jaboulet vinyards, the Rhone. Just fantastic.

good show. enjoyed the banter with the dude from 2 bro’s. Good story about his winery. Can’t wait to try – local shop has Big Tattoo red and white, but no Cab. dang. But I have until the end of the year to scan in and send to Mott! Is he named after the apple sauce?

QOTD: Wife and I hosting a wine tasting with 50% bought and 50% wine we made ourselves. Match each of the 15 wines to specific food (shrimp to dark chocolate)that makes the most match – bringing thunder to our neighbors and friends. So many say “oh, I don’t like x” and then I match it to a food and introduce them to what to sniffy snif for and what to taste for – man, blows them away! Next one is Sept – please plan on attending! smile.

When I was about 16 and was at my uncle’s birthday party, I asked my cousin if I could taste a bottle of wine that was unopened and sitting all by itself on the bar. (the bottle was a 94 Robert Mondavi reserve cab) My father quickly jumped up out of his seat and told my cousin, “No, there’s no reason for you to do that, it is an expensive bottole”. My father was/is not very interested in wine. Nevertheless my cousin popped the cork, and with my fathers approval, they poured me a glass. It was my intro to the wine world!! This was my first taste of a fine wine, and a very fine taste as I look back and realize now what I was tasting!

Having wine tastings with my family, mostly my daughter and daughter-in-law, we all bring something interesting to share with the others, then giggle and tell funny stories.

    Amazing show!
qotd: My family doesn’t drink wine, but I have semi-frequent wine tastings with my closest friends. My parents come from prohibition/evangelical Christian stock, and my sister is pregnant too often to get started (and her husband is also from the same stock as my parents. The cool thing, though, is that I can talk to my parents about wine and share my knowledge and passion for this complex beverage.

Its so nice to see a company more concerned with others than with itself, you guys are doing a terrific thing thanks so much!

QOTD When my sister bought me a bottle of Caymus for my birthday and I waited and drank it with her when she graduated college so worth it.

    Great Show.

Alex seems like a really kind, compassionate guy who wants to make a difference. It’s truly encouraging to see creative people like that finding unique ways to help.

I’ve enjoyed both Big Tatoo Red and Big Tatoo White; really nice, approachable wines for everyday. Plus its a great cause.

I would like to see Alex come back and share more (he seems like he’s got some stories to tell).

    Great show, great idea Alex.

QOTD: Any wine-drinking with family is a great experience. But the 1982 Mouton-Rothschild we opened on Thanksgiving a couple of years ago has to be tops. None of us have sophisticated enough palates to truly appreciate it (was a gift obviously) but it was still heavenly and we savored every drop.

QOTD: All of my best experiences with wine are probably with my dad. For his birthday we had an ’01 Screagle with steaks and a nice dinner at my house. Maybe my favorite bottle ever, and a great meal with the family and newborn son.

  • Cool show, and great job on the charitable contributions to breast cancer and hospice!

QOTD – my best experience was finally getting by beer drinking older brother into the wonderful world of wine. After many attempts, I got him “hooked” by pouring him a 2004 Bella Lily Hill Estate zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley. That absolutely blew his mind. Within a few months, I got him to buy TWO CASES of wine from Belvedere, which was just closing down and closing out all of their inventory at ridonculous savings. Robert Conard, their head wine club/tasting room dude, hooked him up with a ton of Sonoma County chardonnay, Russian River Valley chard, some sauvignon blanc, and some of their great 2005 pinot noir – all at about half off. My brother then went out and bought a decent wine cooler, and seems to have gotten bit by the wine bug. Now, I have the challenge of keeping him out of my cellar….. wine and family – the perfect pairing!

  • Thank you all for your comments regarding my appearance on Wine Library TV. It was a pleasure to share our story with you.

Not only was I busted for spilling wine, but also for being a little overzealous in announcing our new initiative to update our donation counter daily. Previously itâ??s been our policy to update monthly. Our offices were a bit slow putting the new policy of daily updates into action. Thank you for visiting our website and calling me on that one. My team rallied to organize this daily and now invite you to visit our website for the most current donation numbers. Thank you for your support of our project.

Absolutely the best experience with a family member was with my wife and my closest life long friends at my retirement party in the mountains where we opened a 2001 Masetto and afew high end cali. cabs. The evening was truely an experience to remember forever!!! Ken

a few years back my God mother had passed away shortly before the holidays and for New Year’s I had invited my God Father over to spend the evening with us. He is in his 70s and we were all a bit concerned about him throughout the night. He was in a quiet seat for awhile until I busted out a bottle I have beensaving for quite some time – 1978 Lafite Rothschild Bordeaux. When this man opened his eyes and saw this bottle, he actually smiled and said – finally I broke out the good stuff. Mind you – I dont’ “roll” like that normally. This bottle was a gift and IO had beensaving it for the right occasion. Apperently this was it – from that pointon he was very talkative and kept pouring himself a nice glass…on his last our I had to stop him because he was on his way of filling his glass to the rim – A large Ridel… Opening the wine was well worth it and I will never forget the happiness it brought this man that I love dearly.

Great show and great cause. I purchased a few bottles to hand out to friends.

  • I almost choked to death on a Spree once! Still love them though. 🙂

QOTD: Well, that’s tough actually. Best I can figure is the time I brought over a bottle of Merlot and my mother almost fell over because, unbeknownst to me, she HATES Merlot. I knew she drank red and at the time, merlot was one of my favorites, and what seemed like the most logical choice. It was embarassing, and I felt kind of bad for bringing the wrong thing, but I learned something that day about my mom, about people, and about wine. What I learned? Mom hates merlot, always ask people about what they like instead of just assuming, and not every red is a merlot.

    Mmmm…Spree!

QOTD: My favorite wine/family memory is when I was about 4 years old and my Grandma (a BIG white wine drinker) let me have my very own glass of wine at Thanksgiving. Sure, it had a ton of ice in it, and was probably watered down, but I felt SO special, I’ll never forget it. Now whenever Nana offers me a glass of wine, I just can’t say no. You rock Nana!
