I loved Miner Estates 2002 Syrah, which I can no longer find.

Wish I could find something like it, still looking.

    the bandit wines
    from the 3 thieves
in da box or the ol ‘skool jug.

I like all they produce, exception being the
chardonnay, because I’m not a big fan of the chard.

QOTD: Going back through the decades, starting with the rieslings, Niersteiner, blue Pieroth, most anything kabinett. Getting into the reds, pretty simple ones – Mommesin red, Farnese red, chianti, anything Pere Bouchard. More recently, with trying to expand the “pal” with some newer whites, reds such as merlot, malbec â?? not really any “go to’s”. Also had a long run >15 years ago with a couple of German-styled Canadian whites: Winzertanz and Hochtaler. Interestingly, the Quebec-produced editions of both of those were superior to the Ontario and BC varieties. They served well through countless Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving dinners.

These guest appearances do nothing for me, frankly. It’s nothing personal, lest one thinks this is mean spiritedness directed toward people who appear to be perfectly nice. But the cheeky banter, the obvious attempts to gain Gary’s approval, the immediate chumminess…it’s all a bit too Jim Rome for me. And can’t we be honest here – If we really wanted lovely Sara’s opinions about these wines wouldn’t we just go to her vlog?
Sorry, Gary. Your reviews are almost universally positive. Perhaps the rare dissenting view provides some value. But you encourage transparency and honesty. So here’s one vote for 86ing the guests.

QOTD: Its tough to choose between my 2 favorites: 2000 Chateau Grand Puy-Lacoste and the Montus Madiran (I wish I could get my hands on more Madiran/Tannat based wines).

GV, nice show, hopefully you got enough rest for the big media day.
Sounds like a few winners today.

QOTD: 2006 Sineann Schindler Pinot Noir, simply because it is a wine that goes well with food, but also is great drinking by itself, which is how I enjoy my wine the most.

QOTD: As a Vayniac, I would not, could not drink a favorite wine everyday. But for fun I will answer with a Gevrey Chambertin.

QOTD: Feital Alvarinho Dorado and Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano D’abruzzo. Gary, you need to review the Zaccagnini on the show!

It was nice to see a guest with some personality. The last guy was like Frankenstein. 🙂

QOTD: Historically, Leoville Las Cases (St. Julien, Bordeaux), but I had the biggest eye opener last year during a tasting at Domaine du Pegau in Chateauneuf du Pape. Today, my heart is split right in the middle between the two (and my cellar is now a just a big shrine to Bordeaux and CdP). Long live the old world funk and earthiness…

Great job with Sara! Glad to see that girl get schooled at the feet of the master.

QOTD: My tastes tend to run towards the dry, light whites and the big, full-bodied reds. I especially like a crisp, fruity Pinot Grigio with melon and citrus flavors, or a rich, deep Ozzie shiraz. But if I have to pick a single brand, I’d have to go with the fine fermentings of Mr. Charles Shaw, especially the merlot. Merlot is such an overrated wine, I associate it with pretentious twits who judge it more on how expensive it is than how it tastes (sorry to all you non-pretentious merlot fans out there, but those folks ruined it for all of you). Anyway, Two-Buck Chuck puts merlot back where it belongs: in a respectable table wine that costs only 2 bucks and tastes like it costs 6. It’s a perfect everyday wine (especially at those prices) for those days when you might want a steak, but don’t plan on serving it with stuff like foie gras and caviar. Which, if you’re like me, is most days.

I would drink wine with her anytime. She sparkles! Due Gary’s advice I have been drinking a lot of 2004 Bordeaux. Good advice. I wish I could afford to buy many cases
