QotD: Best was a 2003 Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from our honeymoon we opened to celebrate the purchase of our 1st home. Worst was a 2004 Mouton Cadet… not that bad really, it just fell apart over the course of 24 hours.

    Good show, Gary!

QOTD: Best wine all weekend…2006 Benton Lane Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, worst…some Argentinian Cabernet at Fogo de Chao, AKA “The Meat Faucet” here in DC. It is the worst because the 3 others I had were all great, and it was…good enough. Not bad, just the worst of the bunch.

  • torquey

Yipes, the show sounded awful with the clip-on mic; not an improvement at all.

QOTD: Worst wine was a taste of Fiano Mandra Rossa at a chain restaurant establishment. Best wine was a 2001 San Biagio Barolo.

Enjoyed the show GV. I like the new look for the website. Not the biggest fan of the mic though. I honestly can only remember the name of one of the bottles we had this weekend. It was the Pillar Box rea, and after hearing a lot of hype, I wasn’t that impressed. Can’t wait to get the new wristband. I’m definitely a fan of the yellow.

Gary and crew, the mike sounds lousy. I feel bad, since I was one of the people urging you to go with a clip-on, but maybe there is a better mike out there or a way to adjust this one so you don’t sound so stuffed up.
This weekend, I had a few good wines – the Tablas Creek Cotes du Rhone was great with the BBQ, and I also really liked the ripe lush fruits of the Ercavio Roble. I was less impressed by the RH Philips EXP Viognier, which lacked the vibrancy I love in Viognier.

I know that “Link it up Mott” and mentioning all the buttons on your winelibrarytv.com website is a part of the “show”, you’ve now got a lot of iTunes viewers (including me!) who view your show through either their iTunes or on their iPods and therefore have no idea about the links or website nav buttons.

    Just a thought …

QOTD: Best wine: Yarraloch Pinot Noir 2005 (Yarra Valley, VIC, Australia). Went so amazingly with crispy blue eye.
Worst wine: Kangarilla Road Primitvo (McLaren Vale, SA, Australia). They’ve changed it from calling it Zinfandel to the old world, Primitivo and unfortunately the new vintage doesn’t stack up to previous efforts. Far too lacking in fruit weight.

We only had 1 bottle this weekend and it was great: Domaine De l’hortus Grand cuvee.

I have to agree with the comments on the audio. It sounds like you’re a bank teller talking to us through bulletproof glass.

I brought some GV picks to try with some friends, and there weren’t any bad ones…

    Best: Gunn Estate Unoaked Chardonnay
Worst (but still pretty good): Altos Las Hormigas Bonarda Mendoza Colonia Las Liebres

Hey G.V.–I’m digging the new changes (especially the intro.), but the mic makes you sound like you are reporting from a cave or that you have come down with a stuffy head cold! Good luck working out the kinks. You and Mott will keep bringing the thunder as always!

  • Hey Gary,

I am pretty new to the wine world so I haven’t had a chance to go out and try things out on my own. But this past weekend, the best wine I had was a Fetzer Riesling that is very popular and tastes well because of the acidic taste you were talking about. The worst was a Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay. Not that it was bad, but it was just the worst that I had that weekend. I am hoping in the next couple of weeks to start branching off and starting trying one wine a week until more funds come in 🙂

    Your show rocks!

QOTD: Best wine of the weekend was a 1996 Dehlinger Cabernet Sauvignon from Russian River Valley – aromas and flavors fo raspberry, black cherry, cassis, chocolate, and a little bit of oak. It matched up great with a grilled rib eye steak. Worst wine of the weekend was a 2005 Chaz Point Cabernet Sauvignon from Columbia Valley. It may have been just me, since everyone else seemed to like it, but I found it too one-dimensional with nothing beyond its fruityness.

  • The shotgun mic you have been using is far superior. This we suffice for ourdoor type things, maybe. Nonetheless, great show!

    QOTD:
Worst-Gabbiano Chiati, couldn’t finish the night-time medicine flavor
Best- Lakeridge Reserve Cuvee Noir, florida wine from muscadine. Very surprising!

  • GV – The new mike! Awesome in its realness! Fun show to boot. QOTD – My 2003 Ch. Clairfont was disappointing! But I opened a St. Cosme Gigondas with some friends that went over in spades. Viva La Rhone!

Another wine to put on my list! I’m really obsessing about Italian wines, ever since going to Italy last year. Italian food, pastry, wine….the Italians know how to dine and do it well. While having a lot of wine there, I mainly drank “house red” in restaurants. However, I did rightly have the Barbara in Piedmonte. 🙂

QOTD: no wine this weekend. gasp!!

Look forward to rocking it with you in SF! Bringing friends.

QOTD: Best – Super Talbot from Little Ashby Vineyards.
Worst – a 1973 Bordeaux from St. Julien that had gone way over the hill, and maybe was a little heat damaged. We also had a 1985 from the same Chateau that was showing a little too much age, but was very interesting. It had some amazing complexity.

    Hi Gary,

hope your bordeaux trip is going well, how is the weather?

Like the new format, definitely like the new microphone. I just got my Mott link it up t shirt, it is great.

QOTD: best MITOLO GAM 06 , worst, Penfolds, Thomas Hyland Shiraz 05

It was more of a beer weekend, but one of the girls was drinking Sutter Home chard in the mini187’s of course I had to ask for a sip. I guess 10 beers didn’t have me thinking clearly, but even after the beers I could tell how yuckville it was. Sunday popped an ’05 Adler Fels Santa Barbara Pinot Noir my friends liked it but I was on the fence.

This was the first episode I watched of yours and it was great. I drank three bottles of wine over the weekend with Three Alarm Cellars California Red being the worst of the three, but still drinkable.

QOTD: Best wine this weekend was the dry sample tray from Debonne Vineyards, Madison, OH. Why? What could be better than sharing the grape on a perfect summer 4th of July day with family, just celebrating US?! Worst wine this weekend—I dunno—they all tasted good to me. It was just all about family…

  • Zanne

QOTD: best wine of the weekend was a dry Madeira. First time I’ve had that wine so very interesting, complex, and totally different than most other wines out there. Was great with olives and cheese during an aperitif. Worst wine – Yellow Tail Merlot. Just dull, dull, dull.
