QOTD – Don’t think I have had any really high end bordeaux’s that were aged for a long period of time. Have had some middle range bordeaux’s that had been aged a few years and they were good.

Excellent show! I was lucky enough to try La Tour’s second wine from 1978. Even with less than proper storage, it was pretty good.

Any way you can do a garagiste wine show on a July 30th show? My husband would *love* it.

It’s Bordeaux. It’s classic vintages. It’s Gary V. “is it plugged in?…are you sure?” “it says 4 minutes” I love it! Keepin’ it real in freakin’ BORDEAUX!!!! Gary V nails it every time. Who ya gonna believe? The kid from dirty Jersey, that’s who!

Enjoyed the show but I gotta say QPR is way too
important to me to spend that kind of cash on a
bottle of wine when there is an abundance of wine
that is just as enjoyable for 1/3 those prices.
And if you spend $300 on a bottle of wine just to
impress someone… well that’s just obscene.
Maybe I would feel different if I had Gary V. money
    but I don’t.
    But that’s just my opinion.

Very interesting about these old wines,I dont think I could hold a bottle for that long, and like someone stated previously I wouldnt spend that much money on a wine.
Unless I had that kind of cash on me

I had a 1986 Baron De Rothchild (Kosher edition) in a double magnum. It tasted a bit bit past it’s prime but was still interesting and unique. I tasted it on passover about 4 years ago.

QOTD: I’ve not had many, but I did have the privilege of drinking a 76 Mouton Rothschild and it was still a very good wine in spring this year.

This episode got me out of long time lurking!
I had an ’83 Bordeaux the moment that I got engaged on the pier of a little lake in Wisconsin with only the Loons (birds, not people) and the ducks watching…candles and cheese and most importantly, the one I love 🙂
It was a couple of years ago now but I remember it warming my insides in that way I love wines to do. An amazing finish that I have yet to experience with another wine. Then again, I am sure it was the love and the wine combined!
I just wish I could remember the name of the actual Bordeaux!

QOTD: A lot of 1975s including Ch. Cos d’Estournel, Talbot, Léoville las Cases, Lascombes and Beychevelle. Also Ch. Latour 1983. Can’t afford any of them anymore.

  • Great episode, takes a lot of willpower to hold on to a bottle that long I feel.
QOTD: I’ve never had anything (including Bordeaux) from prior to 1995. I can’t wait to, now that I see how polished they can become!

  • QOTD: I’ve had the Chateau Margaux but not sure about the year. It’s one of my favorite tastings ever! Today I picked up the Margaux from Costco for $17.50. I’m crossing my fingers that it’s at least worth that much.

Just now I received my Sniffy Sniff wristband in the mail! Nice surprise..thanks WLTV!

Great show! Thanks. I have been a long time collector and prefer to age my wines…especially Bordeaux, so I especially appreciate this retrospective, and look forward to many more.

QOTD: I have had many “mini” tastes (about one ounce) of hundreds of early eighteen hundred through mid nineteen hundred vintage wines from all over the world at the old Heublein, Inc. Rare Wine Tastings and Auctions in the 1970’s. However, I was so young and inexperienced at the time that I won’t count these in my answer. But I do have to count these tastings as the greatest wine learning experience of my life. Of the wines I have actually owned, a 1961 Chateau Haut Brion and a 1961 Chateau Gruaud Larose stand out as the oldest and best Bordeaux I have tasted from my own cellar. Gary, you will be happy to know that they were both tasted with my closest wine buddies.

QOTD: 1961 Haut Brion. My brother and I went crazy and bought this bottle with one of his buddies, shared in his back yard with our wives a few years ago with grilled steak. What a day…

1982 Chateau Cheval Blanc in a little French restaurant in Bar Harbor Maine. The deceased dad of the current owner had bought up amazing Bordeaux and the child did not know what she had. Our group drank every bottle they had left for $80 per bottle that week. We also had 1983 Ch. d’Yquem there. Amazing, never to be repeated experience. I can still taste the finish of that wine.

How about a “85 Chateau Pavie” the cork fell apart and had to be pulled out bit by bit.
The wine was great and could have lay down for two more years;it was a wonderful wine and shared with nice friends.

Right in the middle of calif. and I am happy to say I love French Wines.
