I remember a 1962 Ch Lafite as being a wonderful refined, feminine wine.
A Ch Haut Brion 1966 was great when fairly young, but a few years ago hadn’t held up so well. Oh, the memories…

QOTD: A 1978 Les Forts de Latour, which despite having been improperly stored, remains one of the most delicious and complex wines I’ve ever had the pleasure to drink.

clos des jacobins 1961-drunk with my wife a year after we were married in 1990-we were out for dinner in a smart local restaurant and the wine was more than the meal when we could least afford it-after tasting it we would have been just as happy with rustic bread and a lump of cheese-fabulous

QOTD: It was the 1988 Chateau Beausejour Becot, ordered from you last year. My girlfriend and I savored every last drop. We actually went into your store last weekend and inquired if there’s anymore in your basement, but your wine consultant stated that that was probably the last time he would be able to get it. Too bad, but I’ll always remember it. Thanks Gary!

Great show and the room looked like you were staying at a chateau. Those French know how to enjoy life.

QOTD: Does “Dominus” count since it’s made by a French Bordeaux winemaker and a true Bordeaux blend? I love the ’88 Dom otherwise, I don’t believe I’ve had any pre-95 Bordeauxs. Started getting into them in 2000 and I love the Reignac.

Good show. A little more explanation on bottle variation w/ older vintages is warranted. Great point as well about when the scores by RP and WS were handed out.

QOTD: Relatively newwer wine drinker (last 5 years). Oldest I have had thus far is 1998 (Ch Simac St. Emilion I believe). Was ok nothing high end.

Can’t say I’ve had much older Bordeaux. I had a 75 Tronquoy Lalande, but it was probably peaked – lots of old shoe leather, but still interesting and drinkable.

By the way your question was asked, I think you mean a wine at least 12 years old. For me though, my most memorable bottle of wine was a ’75 Leoville Las Cases, which I opened for my 30th birthday in 1983. I still remember how the aroma of that bottle filled the room when I uncorked it – what an unforgettable experience, and what an evening!

    Cool show GV!
    My wedding anniversary is 1988!
Therefore, this show helped me because I am always trying to find wines from that year.

I drank the 1988 Chateau Cheval Blanc five years ago on my fifteenth anniversary and it was dynamite! Loved it!

Gary, I have to tell you that I was at the Finger Lakes Wine Fest this weekend and had my first wine that smelled and tasted of cat pee! I was not feeling it, but so proud I could identify that scent off the nose!

Hey Gary a little too much ambiance in that room. Like you said, appropriate for the wines tasted but, you needed more lighting on your face and the bottles.

“66 or ’70 Haut Brion both were killer wines for me. Recently had the ’82 Leoville Las Case and that was fantastic.

Hi Gary, I heard Lexar came out with a 20 GB drive for your video cam… is that even true? if so, it might be good for your trips…

QOTD: definitely a 1990 Cos D’Estournel, I’ve tried it more than once, with similar results…
