Awesome show today. I’m feeling the shiraz lately and I’m all in favor of Australian stuff. Running down the top 3 on the QOTD,
    1)Thorn-Clarke Shotfire ’06
    2)Heathvale ’04
    3)d’Arenberg ’04
    Good times for everyone.
And let’s get some love for the start the REAL football season– Barclay’s English Premiership Football.

    QOTD: Here we go!
1st Place – Jim Barry “The Armagh” Shiraz (69 â?¬)
Deep dark red, brown tinge. Inky in the center. Soft warm dark berries. Well ripe. Hints of tobacco, Licorice, coffee Lovely!. Great! Beautiful balance. Rich fruits but not to intense, fine tannins puckery acids. Smoky. Mega long. Tannins surrounding every taste bud in my mouth.

    2nd Place – Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz (12 â?¬)
If you want a great value drink now Aussie that is neither Fruit-Bomb nor Oak-Monster you really should try this out. Very approachable, great balance. This wine is polite enough to be drunk with food (unlike #3 below). There are always some of these in my cellar.

    3rd Place – Tatachilla Shiraz (15 â?¬)
Do you feel like a wine that will sneak up behind you, tap you on the shoulder and then punch you right in the face, this is what you want. Fruit Bomb, rich and full.

  • Daniel

always love the blind shows. really puts garys pallet to the challenge.

even though i am not a big australia (wine) fan, this was a really good show. gotta respect the blind tastings + these seemed to be pretty serious, or at least respected wines. they were not 4 2buck chucks. i have not had any molly dooker wines, probably would not buy one, but if someone offered one to me, i would be surely curious. at 72 bucks, i could buy some kick ass wine from france, italy…. 2 bottles of great oregon wine.
oh well, good show. wish i could have tasted them
QOTD – i cannot tell you. i have had one or 2 in the past 7 1/2 months and they did not tickle my elmo. one was like drinking a 2 x 4 and the other was a cocktail w/ grape juice

  • EP27

Gary – Luv the comparison to the “slutty princess” I was on the floor laughing my a#$ off.

QOTD: I think I have to go with the Hazyblur Adelaine Shiraz 2005. I liked the other hazyblurs, john duvals, and mitolos also from 2005 but the adelaine is drinking way better and smoother at the moment!
