  • QOTD: That’s crazy. The dude a couple above me in this comments section said the same wine that I was going to say. The Torbreck Woodcutter’s Shiraz was excellent. Even better because I got it on sale for $13. There was definitely sediment in the last glass, but other than that, very good.

I don’t like to rep the blog on big forums like this but if you’re curious about my tasting notes, check it out (click my name and it will send you there). Let me know what you think.

Blue Eyed Boy, oh heck, any Mollydooker. But, I also love Barossa Jack by Jason Woodbridge and Pure Love Wines.

QOTD – The 2002 Nuriootpa Barossa Class Shiraz. It’s amazing that tenth graders can make wine of this caliber. I was thinking of a lot of things in tenth grade and making wine wasn’t one of them…

Favorite Aussie shiraz past 7 months would be the 2004 Kilikanoon Testament. Really delicious, very dark, bluberry, blackberry, licorice.

Well… I don’t know about their Shiraz, but I’m a big fan of Hardy’s Tawny Port (now called “fortified wine” which is a stupid result of some lame EU ruleing in favor of Portugal claiming rights to “Port” or something equally retarted like that, but don’t get me started…)

Anyway, QOTD: It’s been a while since my last shiraz. Normally do them in the winter. So I honestly don’t remember. Got a couple in the cabinet though and I think a couple are even Australian. When I have one, I’ll come back and comment.

  • You never know – Chad P. may give the Jets some big-time payback!
QOTD: I’ve had a few Aussie Shirazzes and always find this component I don’t like: MEAT. Sure, there are lots of berry flavors but always this raw meat thing I taste which I don’t like. But having said that I enjoyed The Winner’s Tank Shiraz 2006 Langhorne Creek.

I love the big, fruit bomb Aussie wines. Great show. I really like the blends like The Stump Jump.

Love the blind shows. But I peeked at ustream just when you revealed the results. Now I’ll watch the beginning and middle.

QOTD: I remember having a Syrah from Chile recently but I can’t recall my last Australian Shiraz. I wasn’t a big fan and I’ll have to go back and try again. Rhone blends are more my style with Syrah.

UH OH! GV your pals goin to the dark side!

missed the score on the dooker. did u have one?

Lets see some double blinds with some reasoning as to why a wine is what it is. We could learn a ton from it about typicity from regions, what to expect etc.

  • A couple months ago I went to an Aussie Shiraz blind tasting. The winner for me was the ’02 Arakoon Shiraz McLaren Vale Doyen Willunga. I have no idea where the guy who brought it found it… never heard of that producer before, but it was my best Shiraz of the year so far.

  • QOTD: I can’t answer my favorite because we got it at a restaurant and the name is completely escaping me right now (I’ve got it down at home). But I do remember buying an inexpensive bottle of Thorn Clarke Terra Barossa a couple of months ago and enjoying the heck out of it, especially for the price, as did my wife.

    GREAT EP!! love the baggers….

Working thru my 95-2002 Barossa Valley and Elderton Commands
Opened a 2005 Amon-Ra and 1998 Elderton Command this weekend. Both were great and a neat way to see how some of these wine age. Would I hold them for 20 years?? probably not,, but most I’ve had at 10 are very good.
    Lovn’ the Thunder! 🙂
