I’m really impressed that he doesn’t have a chard by the glass on there. Good for him.

Good idea Gary! Restaurant lists can be tricky sometimes. I don’t know about down in the States, but here in Canada, Quebec, wines tend to be very expensive at restaurants, like 2 to 3 times what you’d pay at a wine store…

QOTD: My new discovery in the white wine world has been the Picoult de Pinet from the Coteaux du Languedoc 2007, from the Piquepoul varietal. Very good summer wine. Fresh, crisp, vibrant wine with apricot/tropical and floral components…Good stuff!

The Wine Library meets the Blair Witch Project with unabashed vertical swoosh!
Better to stick to the wine than the cinematography-it would make the viewing less distractive and help us learn more about the wine list. I enjoyed knowing what a good wine list contained, but there was too much insider information bandied about, and it would have helped to really steady the cam. I liked the concept but am still dizzy.

Hey Gary! Great to see you are coming up with fun new ideas for your show. Loved the wine list and the Wine Director seemed very personable and knowledgeable. Awesome guy! I would have loved to see the description of the wines that were recommended as you have linked up on your regular shows. Hopefully you and Mott can work on that??? 😉
Keep the good work and who knows…maybe one day you’ll do a review of the wine list at my friend’s restaurant in Brooklyn – NoNo.

  • Gary, I really like this idea, however it was hard to keep up with what you were saying. Your energy level seemed a bit higher with the new idea! It was fun to learn about the wine list, although I will probably never get there. I love the change of pace.
QOTD: who really knows but I really love Gewurztraminer and now I am very excited to have more from down under.

Nice new concept Gary V. Jessie was spot on with his comments, and I found it rather informative as to why he chose the wines on his listing. QOTD……..Torrontes from Argentina, U pick the region. Some very nice tasting wines. Try the Susan Balboa’s Crist.

Cool concept. Maybe next time you could take Mott and a real camera? Also, you could sample one or two of the wines that you haven’t had or think would be interesting.

QOTD — If Chenin Blanc hasn’t been hot already, it probably will be. Good dollar exchange rate in South Africa. I had a great and inexpensive Saumur Chenin Blanc and will be looking for more.

Thanks Gary! I’m not sure if I liked this as much as when you taste wine but it’s always good to mix it up!

QOTD: Although it is kind of silly to call Vouvray the “new” anything . . .I’m going to say Chenin Blanc, specifically Vouvray, will take the crown as the new hot white wine. Why? Because it’s soooo tasty.

Fun show. Video quality might be a little better (too much quick movement), but otherwise great. The wine list sounded very diverse and interesting. Not sure I have seen one this good in Atlanta. QOTD – Not sure what wine is next, but Torrontes and Albarino seem to be catching on here. Maybe they are old news in NY.

  • E

I don’t know, GV is still making its way out here to the stix. Perhaps Muscadet or Txakoli, if you want to be obscure?

QOTD: Unoaked Chardonnay seems to be increasingly more popular. I would love to see Vermentino more though!

Nice show! Love it when you mix it up a little.

  • Eric

I like the new concept. I think it was essential to have someone else there with you; no offense, but you just reading a wine list could get old. This way it was fun. Other thoughts: the camera made me dizzy and you were talking even faster than normal.

QOTD: Muscadet is going big, again, soon … any day now.

  • Kudos to that restaurant for an awesome list. Nice episode Gary, I think these episodes will be good every month or two.

    Peace

  • Nice episode, Gary – I like the format, but maybe next time you could taste a wine or two if there are wines on the list that you haven’t tried before? That way I could get my “Gary’s live tasting note fix” of the day.

    QOTD: I hope it’s viognier.

    One more thing:

$44 for the ’05 Ch. La Roque (Pic Saint Loup) ???!!!!???!!!

It’s $15 at WL. That’s a ridiculous markup, in my opinion.

    Excellent show,I love the format…a change s as good as a vacation…
    QOTD:
As wine drinkers eventually grow weary of oaky Chardonnay I think the steel Chablis will re-surface.

Hey Gary! Cool concept, but the filming seemed too much like the Blair Witch Project, haha. Next show bust out a tripod and sample at least one of the wines.
