QOTD: I’m drinking too many different things. If you click on my name, it will take you to my blog where there are tasting notes for the wine and beer that I try. Check it out. Feedback is always appreciated.

Le Baron Ranch School Car Petite Syrah from Russian River. It’s a pretty good wine with low alcohol 13.5%. Your shows lately have really been rocking it, keep up the great work!!

QOTD: GaryV, we follow your lead and try a bit of everything! Some of our wine buddies have been making fun of us lately, since our wine cellar has so many different varietals. Since it’s summer, we’ve been sipping more whites and bubblies — lots of sancerre, riesling, vouvrays. I’ve also been on an Italian red wine kick, especially loving the ones I find that are super dry and/or have big tannins. And, we’ve always got some Washington wines on hand, since they’re so easy to come by here in the Seattle area.

Great show Gary. Sorry i wasn’t showing the love last time I posted. I guess I was in a really bad place.

QOTD: Actually all of the new wines I got from WL were pretty awesome and a hit with the girlfriend. You have drawn me to new grapes and tasting experiences out of my norm. Loving the malbecs, viognier and tocai. Wish i could go back and get a few cases of LA Winery’s le Muscle but its sold out. i knew i should have bought it when you had the free shipping….

About number 4 — i was looking at an older show on Italian wines the other day (Nero Dâ??avola Wines – Episode #385) and you called out on Farve and hated on him, even called him Clemensesque in a negative way…. Well I guess he’s OUR Clemens now. LOL

  • Drink anything good lately?

Hmm, I enjoyed a glass of 1994 Dow’s Vintage Port the other night…that was good!

  • Blake

Just tried 3 wines as sort of my own mini tasting (With thanks to the thunder show for the inspiration)
    Blackstone Winery 2005 Syrah (Cali)
    Red bicyclette, 2005 syrah (france)
(and my guilty pleasure all time fav.)
The little penguin 2006 shiraz (australia)

I wanted to see if I could see a huge between the countries…since they were all around the same price point. My fav at first was the Red Bicyclette, but after another 30 min of decanting the Little penguin once again rocked my socks. I might take some heat for that, but hey its AWESOME for the price I got it at 🙂

Between the three you can start to see what the difference between the countries, France was a little more earthy and dark, the aussies did it big and bold and cali had a hybrid of the two.

    Keep em coming!!!

  • @Greg: I agree. That’s why I’ll probably wait to watch the (recorded) episode rather than get the ‘sneak peak’ on UStream.

Hi, I’m mainly a lurker, but today’s show was fabulous.
I’m primarily a Zin drinker, but I bought a case of the
Rosenblum Heritage Clones a couple of months ago and shared
    some with friends…delicious!
I stopped in a store in Vermont today and picked up a bottle
of Incognito Red, a bottle of Folie a Deux Zin (love Menage
a troix), and then the proprietor whispered something about
some Turley in the back room…Well, I left with a 2006
    Juvinile, a 2006 Duarte, and a 2006 Old Vines…So, in
answer to your QOD…I’m drinking Delicious Reds!!!
But more normally, I’ve got a Cycles Gladiator Cabernet
open (not bad for a $6 bottle!), and have a Castillero
Del Diablo Carmenere 2007 that I had planned to open tonight.

We have been trying some older ports that have been sitting in the cellar for a long time. Very pleased with them.

I also have been drinking some new (to me) Belgian beers.

QOTD: I’ve fallen in love with Brunello, and have been drinking and buying them up. Tonight I think I might try the 2001 Caprili Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, mainly to see if I like it enough to buy some more while still available at the LWS. Otherwise trying to cut back on the daily drinker approach to wine, save it up for special bottles.

Gary, I found your tasting notes of the Rosenblum somewhat interesting. I was really expecting the oak monster to make an appearance. The last bottle I had of this was vanilla for days on the nose, and had a very over-oaked finish. The odd thing for me was the previous bottle of the same wine I had none of those thoughts. I wonder what’s going on there.

  • Lynda S

QOTD: I think the last wine I had was a 2005 petite sirah by spellbound. it was extremely light. I am definitely on a tempranillo kick. i have been finding them and buying them.

QOTD: Been drinking mostly scotch these days. I like the smokey ones from Islay especially (Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Laphroig).

I’ve been away for awhile; but this was a great show to come back to! Just now, coincidentally, I’m drinking an Eaglepoint Ranch Petit Syrah ’05 — YUM. In general, lately I’ve been drinking Spanish wines from Ribera del Duero, Jumilla and La Mancha as well as some really surprising Cotes de Ventoux.
