As to what I am drinking it is a lot of 1996 Burgundy as I have a ton of them and if it is true that the whites are falling apart then the reds have some problems. I have not had any with the reds that I have opened yet. Has anyone tried the Ridge York Creek Petite Sarah? I have some bottles and have yet to open one. thanks

QOTD: Lately I’ve been drinking Cali Cabs. I know it’s a common wine for people to drink in the US, but I’m usually into the old world and lesser known wines. I decided it was time to change it up and excite my palate with a more well known wine.

QOTD: I picked up a Shiraz yesterday by mistake; I avoid Shiraz (unless it’s in a blend, e.g., with Grenache Mourvedre Carignan, or a Cali field blend with Cabernet or Zin) because I have never — repeat, NEVER — had a single-varietal Shiraz that I’ve liked. Before tonight’s fortuitous mistake. I am drinking a 2004 Vina Chocalan Shiraz from Chile, and really liking it a lot. When you were tasting one of these Petit’s tonight, and you mentioned blackberries, I suddenly realized what it was about this Shiraz that I liked so much: it is oozing blackberries out the wazoo!

QOTD: These past couple of weeks my bf has been working nights, so dinner is served with coffee instead of wine. So temporarily I am not drinking too much well except coffee. Coffee counts right? It’s good coffee, I enjoy it, day or night. =)

Speaking of value Petite Syrah, I’ve been drinking Bogle Vineyards version. A decent wine for eleven bones. Other than that I’ve been drinking Peter Lehmann’s Clancy.

QOTD: I went to a wine shop in my hometown and they had some wine varietals I’ve never heard of on clearance. I bought some $5 Tokai. I also scored a 1998 Mid Coast Zin and some Argentinian Vionger. Nothing has knocked my socks off which is why it’s on clearance, but I feel like I’m drinking a little bit of history here and none of them are bad!

Big-up’s to your fam for emigrating from their home country. I thank my stars my fam worked shitty jobs their whole life, especially my single mom to get me where I’m at!

QOTD: went out to Thai the other day and had a brilliant Late Harvest Verdelho that had a just a tad of sweetness and went really well with the food! MMMM!!! Yum

QOTD: I’m drinking Bitburger beer. In the past I’ve bought packs of 4, 6, 12, 15 (miller light as recent as 2000), 18, 20, 24, 30, and 36. But never have I seen 8 packs until I saw an 8 pack of Bitburger, “Germany’s No. 1 Draft Beer Imported.” It’s a pretty typical German import beer, guess I got what I expected.

Hey Gary. Love the show. I have been watching since you were on the Basic Brewing podcast a few months ago but I am ashamed to say this is my first post. I am new to wine and your show is really helping me expand my palate.

QOTD-Right now I am drinking Bnektar Meadery’s Tupelo mead. Its fantastic. Also I have really been into beer from Jolly Pumpkin for the last year or so.

Gary! Absolutely agree with you on the Rosenblum Heritage Clones Petite. Great juice for the price point. Inky inky inky and full of dark flavors. Had it at the Rhone Rangers event in SF a couple of years back and it definitely won me over.
QOTD: Drinking some of my own wine that I’ve made with my buddies. We tend to go with field-blend type of wines. Syrah blended with Petite Sirah, Barbera, Viognier . . . Made a fantastic Rose last year from a saignee we pulled after a 4-day cold soak. Full berry flavors balanced with bright acidity!
Into Port of late as well. Tawnies to be specific. Great stuff to quaff and wind down with.

Just ’cause you asked… Grimace is a taste bud. That’s the original concept, not sure McDonald’s would cop to that now.

QOTD: Lots and lots of Sancerre white, just lots of Sauvignon Blanc generally. Also been drinking lots of single grape reds, Grenache, and Tempranillo. This summer also saw a lot of dark rum over ice, classic vodka martinis and turkish raki.

Nice show Gary, I am drinking some really nice wine from WA Fielding Hills, Soos Creek, Cadence are some of the best.
