There was a French sparkling wine you were really big on a couple months ago – with lots of colorful dots on the package. I think you even gave it 90+ points for an under $20. I forgot the name as the wine was just mehh in our opinion…

All the Alamos wines. They’re all simple, tasting like sugary soda pop. Never again.
And considering the subject and how you were scarfing down the baked stuff, maybe you should have dedicated this show to Bread Fave.

  • QOTD: The Windmill Zin. Terrible for me.

  • QOTD: Cakebread Chardonnay. So much hype. Didn’t live up to it.

QOTD for Gary: When will #4 make his first appearance on the Thunder Show?

    Hi Gary,

Shame the wines did not really live up to expectation. I could see straight away that the thunder was not there for you. Love the labels though!

    Cheers

    Gary,

Why in the last few episodes do you not say in your intro “AKA the internet’s most passionate wine progeam” I miss that part of your schtick…keep up the good work. I never miss a day.

  • QOD – Infinitus … Spanish Temp/Cab mix… Taste was all up front… nothing mid or back end… even letting it air out didn’t too much for it.

QOTD: A greek rose, forgot the name, but it was something like 12-14h Rose. It had those numners in them. No focus of the acidity, and not good at all.

    Another great show!

Pretty funny watching the spit wine in the bottom of the bucket.

I don’t recall but it was too expensive whatever it was.

Last wine to disappoint, I’d have to say the 2005 Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon. I expected a bit more based on price…

There was alot of HYPE over the Yellow Tale `Reserve’ Syrah. I finally found one and what a joke, it went down the drain. Never to be fooled again!!

    GARY!!

QOTD: A Condrieu from a producer that will remain un-named. It’s not that it was a bad wine, it just lacked lots of the beautiful floral characteristics that make Viognier so wonderful. Perhaps it was a little past its prime, or the vintage was too warm. Who knows??? Unfortunately, it was for my birthday, but it all contributes to the overall wine experience, so it can’t be too bad, eh? As a side, the new spit bucket looks like there is blood pooling in the base of the helmet. A nice visual for the dead deer with cherries-loving crowd!

  • Please beat the Giants this weekend! I’m so tired of Giant fans in my office overanalyzing their superbowl win.

QOTD: BV pinot. I like BV’s whites well enough, but the pinot tasted like a wine I had called Pinot Evil. Funny name crappy wine. The BV was similar. I always decant my reds and the BV didn’t calm down a bit after decanting. Sharp tannins by itself. Ok with a pasta in red sauce. But so disappointing.

I just wanted to say that I felt pretty much the same about the Green Lion Cabernet, but I did feel that it was quite good for the price. I did, however, purchase half a case of the sruff just because of the Alan Aldridge artwork on the bottle. Although the 60’s era was a little before my time, his artwork was unforgettable on the album covers of rock legends including Jimmy Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones!

Gary over the past month I have become a vayneiac, I heard about you on diggnation on revision 3. Because of you my wife and I have started to expand our pallets and our choices in wine, although she doesn’t like spending over $6 a wine so it is a little challenging to get her try new stuff. One thing I have to disagree with you on, my Dallas Cowboys will destroy your Jets! Sorry had to have one football reference. Thanks for all the great shows, we will keep watching.

1st date cracked me up! was waiting for the BF show – 1st time wearing the #4 for you?

QotD: a bottle you sold me but a wine i have enjoyed many times before in other vintages – 99 Ducale Reserva Oro. was a brett-bomb, not brettalicious to me.

  • Mr.Ambassador

QOTD – I thought I’d sample a bottle of the Ca’ del Solo (Bonny Doon) Malvasia Bianca Monterey White Wine; cute artistic label with a a little girl reaching for her mother’s hand and walking down a tree-lined sidewalk. In the past I’ve enjoyed several of the economical Boony Doon wines (like Big House Red) but this purchase was a huge mistake. I had a tough time just getting past the nose which resembles the smell of a bike tire just after you slam on the brakes (soft burning rubber smell); very dry and tart with not much fruit behind that smell on my palate either. Certainly a let down and the last wine I remember simply getting rid of after one glass…

Gary, I’m glad to see you have something to add some excitement to your football season. While this is an interesting and off-beat line up it does bring up an awesome reminder….themes are fun!

QOTD: I would have to say the last wine I was dissapointed by was the 2006 Amavi Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington that a distributor tasted me on.

Nice show, like the themes as well. Time will only tell if the old man can be anything more than average in the big boy conference.

QOTD: 2005 Fabre Montmayou Malbec Gran Reserve had a very odd finish that ruined it for me.

QOTD: That rioja with the black dog on it. You reviewed it and it was exactly as you described so I guess I don’t even know my own PAL. Just couldn’t get away from the manure smell.
