QOTD: hhhmmmm, I think the most recent vintage of the Ravenswood Moscato would be my pick. I was at a friend’s house and she was absolutely raving about this wine she found that she adored, which made it impossible to dump it out in front of her. It really tasted like sugared grape juice. Luckily I was able to refuse a second glass so that at least she could get enjoyment out of the rest of it.

It was a Biale Zin last weekend that I think I paid like $16 for a glass. Good, but not worth it.

By the way, Green and Red does some good stuff. I’ve love their wines for years. Biale too, but that one wasn’t worth it.

QOTD: d’Arenberg GSM. It was just lousy – high acid with zero attack and no finish. Let’s not forget the incredibly awkward nose, of course.

I would think you would show a bit more enthusiasm if you were to give a $16 wine a healthy score of 89. Your consistancy of your own scale wanes.

Didier Dagueneau Pouilly Fume Pur Sang (I think the 2003)
Had really wonderful-sounding tasting notes in the Wine Spectator and I just happened to see it while browsing a couple of days later. When I tried it, I got absolutely nothing from it – it could very well be that it was slightly corked, and thus so dead, but at 60 bucks a bottle, I wasn’t willing to give it another shot.
I’m sticking to NZ Sav Blancs for the time being.

    Go Stillers!

Hope Favre is going to live up to all the hype and not dissapoint a lot of folks up in Jets country, all the best to him though. Got to give it to the man, he is a tough nut.
Last dissapointing wine was first class Shiraz out of Australia, the alcohol was so high, it was all you could taste, nothing else was allowed to come through

I think it was the 2006 Wischer Domina Spätlese trocken out of the Franken Region in Germany.

Dear Brett, if you’re listening (Gary says you are) I just wanted to let you know, we here in Buc Nation are happy…giddy..you did not get traded to Tampa Bay. We really didn’t need your services. Besides, how could you be happy playing in the stadium where Warren “Sapp-Daddy” Sapp inflicted so much pain on you though the years.

    Green Lion Merlot tastes great.

I don’t think Brett is going to be the answer to the Jets problems. Sorry GV. Good luck though!

Q-A Languedoc white of some sort, forget the name.

That was great, Gary, love the new spit bucket. Good luck this weekend against our nygiants!

QOTD: 1998 Nenin… always liked 98 pomerols, but this one fell flat on its face!

GV – I think your show today was a prediction of the Jetâ??s season. Favre starts out great, but slowly goes down in quality, just like the wines did. But I still liked the show and wish Favre and the Jets good luck.

QOTD: I continue to try Zinfandel and it continues to disappoint. Any suggestions?

QOTD – 2004 Robert Foley Claret
Robert Foley’s wine making has worsened proportionately with the time he spends playing music with his band.

Farve will be for the Jets just like this episode for the wine, decent but nothing remarkable! (j/k Gary)

I was at Total Wine and there were some Australian wines being offered to try, they all were unremarkable to me. So much I can even remember the name.

  • GV – As a GB native, I will refrain from any further comment but: QOTD – Ch. Clairefont (Château Prieuré-Lichine’s second wine) from 2003. Biiigggg bust.

    Gary,

New to the show, and relatively new to wine. But lovin’t it. Sort of a fun, beginner’s question for you that I could hopefully put to good use:

What is your favorite steakhouse wine list in New York City (or easily expanded to the country)? and what is your favorite wine to pair with a serious steak (porterhouse etc…)?

    Thanks again for the show!

  • QOTD: 2005 Viña Santa Rita “Medalla Real Reserva Especial” Cabernet Sauvignon. Just horrible. The 2004 was in the Spectator’s Top 100 of 2007, and was quite tasty. This one may just be too young, but its inferiority really took me by surprise.

If the Jets were Orange and Blue and White like the awesomest Broncos maybe a super star like Grett Farver would help them. But they’re green. Green like the color of jealousy. Jealous of the awesomeness of the Broncos. We will have our super bowl this year!!

What was the QOTD? OH Yeah: the ticket that I though about buying to a Jets game last year. WAY not worth it.

    Broncos rule!!

QOTD: I was recently disappointed by the Mark West 2007 Pinot Noir. I was really looking forward to trying this wine as the reviews that I had read were very good and the price… about $13 … was right, but it turned out to be a weak and not very satisfying effort. Definitely a pass in my book.
