  • If I had to take a guess on how Favre will play for the Jets this year, I’d score his performance a 90 (very excellent for a player who’s been around as long as him).

  • My most recent really disappointing wine was the 2001 Quinta de Ventozelo Douro Touriga Franca… I was excited about trying Portugal’s relative of the Cab Franc grape, and one that was aged a bit, to boot. I had it in May, and perhaps my expectations were too high — it wasn’t bad, but was a bit muddled and had a bad acidity to it that told me it was past its prime. the real disappointing thing about it is that I didn’t have it 2 years earlier, as I think it might have been pretty good at that time.

QOTD: I’d have to say Little Penguin Merlot 2005. Just seemed to fall below the ratings cards on the shelf (I know, I shouldn’t have had faith in them)

I am looking at 10-6. Enjoy Brett, he has given Packer fans a lot to cherish over his career in Green Bay.

  • Ho-hum wines celebrating a ho-hum QB. 🙂 Kidding

Gotta love his heart on the field but thought they way he left GB was a tad pompous. I don’t ever want to see a tear from him again during his umpteenth retirement announcement.

QOTD: Great question. I believe the last bottle that disappointed me was rated in your #1 book, the Doisy Sauterne. I hope to change my mind with the next bottle but was expecting soooo much more.

On another note, a friend brought a bottle of Kendall-Jackson Chard this weekend and for the 1st time in years, I actually tried a taste behind the grille. I will say, the oak monster did not rip my throat out. Actually, it was “serviceable.” Wonders never cease.

P.S. I hope to see you Saturday.

    Cheers!

The fate of the Jets has been sealed. As these 3 wines have shown, Favre will disappoint.
QOTD – 05 Christian Moueix Bordeaux. After all the talk about bordeaux, thought I would try one. Maybe it wasn’t the right one?
    GO COWBOYS!!!

THE BRETT FAVRE IS GOING TO ROCK FOR THE JETS THIS YEAR!!!!!

He, like many fine wines, has only gotten better with age! :-)))))))))

QOTD – I hate to say it, GV, but I just recently tried the Le Muscle Cotes De Roussillon from the show… and it was pretty disappointing – especially since your tasting notes sounded great. We popped and poured, and it was really bitter. We let it sit in the glasses for a bit but it didn’t help. Then I left it open for a few hours and again tried it the next day. It just didn’t do it, but that’s ok…

QOTD: O’Reilly 2006 Pinot… what a bummer of a wine. Really disappointing given that the folks that do Owen Roe put out wonderful products.

Hey GV… good thing for you re: the recent rule change on dropping penalty for incidental face mask. Non-instant replay will determine if there were any twisting actions during any of your spits

QOTD: an 05 red burgundy at a restaurant in Breckenridge last february. Was the most non-descript wine I have had in a long while

  • QOTD: An inexpensive Portuguese wine called Versatil that the wine shop owner raved and raved about. It was worth trying, but so not good.

  • Gary,

You know I’m a Pats fan, but I’ll tell it to you like it is. Favre will have plenty of open looks underneath to THE NEWCOMER Dustin Keller and Coles as Thomas Jones’ resurgence this year will keep defenses honest (I’d take Jones as my 2nd RB this year). He’ll also have your boy Cotchery open downfield at will, as he builds upon last season’s success against the SUSPECT AFC East secondaries. All in all, he’ll have a top-10 QB year…and I cannot believe I just said all that about the JETS!!! Anything for you Gary!!

    CHIROGUYDC!!!
…But you will be 0-2 vs. New England!

Nice concept Gary! I liked the episode.

QOTD: I’m consistently disappointed by Beaujolais wine. I’ll try again some day.

Disappointed to see the shade of green of that jersey you’re sporting, Gary. Have they changed it recently, or do the blazing stadium lights/sunshine give the colour a lot more pizzaz?

QOTD: Very disappointed in a Pinot Noir I tried as a by-the-glass at a restaurant last weekend. Attack very vague, neither mid-palate nor finish. So why am I still upset that the waitress spilled about an ounce of it on the table?

I expect Withnail nailed it about cheap PN’s.

QOTD: 2000 Mayo Family Zin—-fruit was dead in the bottle, same old thing, no excitement. As you like to put it–Meh!

I’ve been enjoying the Green Lion. Nothing super amazing, but it’s got a nice nose and some good fruit… an easy drinker.

(Goes to kitchen to check the label on an empty bottle…) Oh yeah, the artist who did the label is Alan Aldridge. He’s known for a lot of his work from the 60s/70s, including The Beatles Illustrated and album covers and posters for Pink Floyd, The Who, the Stones and Hendrix. Trippy indeed.

Wait, did I just de-lurk??? Doh! Does this mean I can’t wear my Official Lurker shirt with pride?

QOTD: Pindar Pythagoras, had it at an all-NY tasting and it seemed good amongst the crowd. But having it on its own at home days later it was decidedly meh.

Ordered a Pic-St. Loup at a steakhouse recently (at the recommendation of the sommelier) that wasn’t nearly as good as it should have been given the price.
