  • I was a little disappointed last night, I opened a Bellum El Pricipio 100% old-vine Monastrell… It was $20 and being from Spain thought it should have performed better at that price point.

  • Good bucket Gary – QOTD, the las big disappointment was today! I tried six wines from the Rhone producer Chateau de Montfaucon, and they were ALL brilliant – with the exception of the rose that was just not right. Maybe a little oxidised?

OMG! Gary, can’t you see the OMEN for the Jet’s season in today’s show. My 7-9 is looking better and better every day 🙂

Qotd: My flawed bottle of 89 Lynch Bages still breaks my heart.

Good show again. I do like the thank you portion as well… we all have so much to be thankful for.

QOTD: I tried the SkyDog White from Oliver Winery in Bloomington, IN. It was TERRIBLE. Like drinking sugar water.

QOTD: Planeta Cerasuolo 2006… nothing really wrong here, just not my style I guess.

QOTD – 2005 Mas Carlot. Like drinking liquid asparagus.

I’m thinking about trying the Green Lion based on the packaging alone.

I can’t remember anything specific recently, but if I get a wine that has too much oak, its pretty much over.

A Tisdale Cabernet my brother sent me. If the shipping charge is more that the wine, don’t bother. I have one left, but will end up throwing it away.
I hope Favre doesn’t turn out like the wines. OK, but not worth the price point.

QOTD: the last wine I was disappointed in was served at the home of a friend – I think it was Yellow Tail or Little Penguin – not that I was so disappointed; I knew what to expect; but they could have asked us for advice on what to buy, at least.

that gourmet fruit stuff is fruit leather. i only know because my friend is obsessed with it.
QOTD: I wrote recently that Woop Woop makes a really delicious shiraz. the 2006 was wonderful, but I tried the 2007 yesterday. I was really disappointed and was hoping the one i bought was not 2007. The tannins were over powering and it needs to mellow for a year or so. I was truly saddened by that bottle.

QOTD: opened a bottle of Hogue chard on a wine bus trip (prior to arriving at the first winery, trying to start the party early) and I think it was corked because it tasted like butt. Some boozer on the bus swilled it anyway. Tried the Hogue cab a few weeks later and wasn’t thrilled about that either. Have read good things about Hogue, but I’m just going to stay away.

I don’t really follow football Gary, but living in the Northern VA burbs of DC, I seem to recall the Jets playing the Skins here last weekend. Ahem…….how’ed they do? QOTD. We spent some time in Buenos Aires last fall, and the majority of the wines we tasted were wonderful. We had an excellent sparkler from the Bodega Delfin del Mundo, Patagonia, but, in attempt to “expand our pallets”, we bought some of their Chardonnay. That was a mistake.

  • QOTD: I was disappointed with a cab I ordered at a gourmet pizza place the other day. I’m fine with a little poopy-poop, but that was the only thing I could pick up on the nose and in the mouth. It went a little overboard, so it was a good thing I had a pizza there to tone it down a bit.

Too bad the Jets are headed for a 7-9 season, even with Brett. Thank God you get to play the Fish twice or it could be worse.

QOTD: 2005 Peachy Canyon Zin, not that it was bad, but it was only fair. I was expecting more. I’ve been very lucky with my wine choices as I learn more and more about vino. We try different wines all the time trying to educate our palates.

  • Pete G

Interesting call on the Green Lion. Food & Wine had it featured (among others)in an article about value wines that one can buy instead of buying a high $ wine (and still get the same sort of flavor, terroir, etc). I think the Lion was a substitute for Harlan.

QOTD: Found a 9 year old premiere cru chablis recently that I thought was gonna kick it but it was pretty flabby. 🙁

Good Show Gary, disappointing in the wines but you can’t get the thunder every show so this show keeps it real!

These three lack-luster red wines that you dedicated to Fay-vree 4-shadow the Jets soon to be lack-luster season. This fool should have been traded years ago after GB’s super bowl loss. God help you.
