  • Brett is a QB. And a fungus that makes wine smell like poop. Just sayin’. But actually I wish him and Jets well except with they play the Patriots. I know you hate the Pats like I hate the YANKEES.
QOTD: Well, I was disappointed in: 2006 Domaine Roger Perrin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc. It was just O.K. on 1st day, by 2nd day it really was just bad, even though stored in fridge.

  • QOTD: it was either a 1996 or 1999 Dom. Just didn’t do anything for me. I’ve had several sparklers for 1/4 the price that did more for me. Maybe I’m missing something, but I just felt like I was paying for the name…

  • QOTD: Inexpensive pinot noirs can often be disappointing.
Trying 4 budget pinots might be a good show idea for you.

  • Hopefully Brett will perform without a Brett problem. You never said what the gourmet department hooked you up with. The last disappointing wine. Sine Qua Non Grenache that I was told was going to be amazing. Friends opened it and it was badly corked as was the second bottle.

QOTD: last wine to disapoint would be a white Gamay from the south west of France… It was not my idea of a good white: lacked acidity and aroma

My most recent disappointment was the 2004 Alexander Valley Silver Oak Cab. I was expecting big things from the price point ($150 in my restaurant), but was dropped on my head. The nose was wonderful, but not $150 wonderful. On the palate…well, I wouldn’t give $15 for it in a liquor store. I brought home a $20 bottle of Medalla Real Cab from Chili that moped the floor with the Silver Oak.

It’s a good thing it wasn’t my money that went into that bottle. Thank you left-overs from a happy table that spent way too much on my service 🙂

    Great show G-sizzle!

QOTD: I’ve actually got a twofer and a really great one for you, last week my best wine buddy was visiting from Maryland, and brought me a bottle of Verite Le Desir, (that’s the Cab Franc one) last year when I went to see him, we had la Joie and the Muse, and they are my top two best wines I’ve ever had. Hell I’m usually not a merlot guy by any means, but the Muse might have eeeked out to be my fave. Well we popped Le Desir, and while a great effort and very good wine, my mind wasn’t even close to being blown. I was ready for a pink floyd lazer show, and I got a keychain pointer. IT wasn’t that bad, but still, when you expect magic, and you don’t get it, it’s a little dissapointing.

The second one wasn’t nearly as much of a letdown, but I bought a bottle of the lastest release of Pinot from Cloudline (willamette) unlike last years vintage, this was reallly sweet, and completely boring…tasted like watered down kool aid.

QOTD: 2006 Infinitus Malbec-Shiraz. I was expecting a lot more for a gold medal. Too much alcohol and tannins. Maybe it needed 2 more years or so.

  • I actually saw this being taped on UStream and I’m still jealous of the spread that the dude from your gourmet department brought in. Everything on that plate looked unbelieveable. I especially liked the part when you got super excited and happy that one of the cheeses smelled like poop.

I really liked the show. I’ve seen the Green Lion in stores but haven’t tried it. Just had the 2005 Black Stallion Zin and was disappointed. A nice wine, but a little light for $38.00.

  • So nice of you to welcome Brett, fun wines too bad they were not what you had hoped for. My last disapointment was a merlot from Chile, can’t remember the brand.

    QOTD: 2005 Terra Valentine Amore

I would have really liked the Jets after they got Favre … except that they hired Bill Callahan.
