  • Question OTD: When I read a book, I can get into a headspace where I block everything else out. Totally. My wife can sitting next to me on the couch, ask a question and I won’t hear a word.

    Quote OTD: “I’m smelling insects”

  • why is it when I sniffy sniff t-kill-ya i want to throw up? Too many nights that “we don’t wanna talk about”, maybe?

  • For those that love tasting, comparing and discovering fine unknown Tequila brands. There is a great site, http://www.TequilaRack.com that has information and videos on how to properly taste Agave spirits in order to determine your own preference. They showcase different Family Brands from different distilleries around the Tequila Appellation area. Apparently there are many traditional family Tequila brands that have only recently begun to export outside of their villages. Buried in the resources section of the site is an interactive Tequila Training course that is free, fun and educational http://www.tequilarack.com/lessons/lessons.html

Awesome show Gary! A quick comment and a suggestion –

Tequila is awesome straight up, but if you’re going to mix a margarita do it up right:

    1) 1.5 oz tequila
    2) 3/4 oz Agave Nectar
    3) 3/4 oz water
    4) juice of one freshly squeezed lime
Mix, Shake, Enjoy the best damn margarita you’ve ever had

How about a Rum show? Single barrel rum does not get enough love and is right up there on the taste bud stimulator list. If you need a co-host drop me a line!

    Great show!

I do really love this wine “breaks”, although I follow these shows for the wine, which is quite fascinating (I’m currently in “wine world exploration mode”) its nice to learn a little about other types of beverages. I’m particularly a huge fan of red wines, cognacs, tequilas and single malt whiskeys.

In regard to tequilas, I hope that you have the chance of tasting more classic tequilas, pay no attention to fancy bottles. I drinking them straight (no ice) is the way to go if you want to fully appreciate them.

    Some tequila suggestions:

    Herradura Reposado (dry)
Tres Generaciones (sweet, easy on the palate)
Tesoro de Don Felipe (sweet and smoky)
San Matías Reserva Especial (left to rest in port casks, so it gets a “brandyish” taste)

    Best regards,

    Roberto

Good show, and I truly view tequila in the fashion you described, as I had a number of those nights.

QOTD – I do not want them to know.

Had the Cabo Wabo. Not bad. My favorite is Tequila Cream though because as we all know, I have a sweet tooth… 😉

QOTD: Even though I give presentations to rooms full of people on a regular basis, nobody knows how shy I used to be and how hard I had to work to overcome that… it’s still a part of my personality today, but I’ve learned to get past it.

I was told at a tequilla tasting in Mexico last year that Patron is made for the American market and not even sold in Mexico. Your observation about its flavor profile is spot on. Doing shots of any good tequilla is such a waste. I think I’ll pour a little Gran Centennario, sniff and sip and catch up on some back episodes of your show.

Don Julio is my go to for Tequila. Patron is my house Tequila for Sipping while playing cards.

QOTD: That I can’t drink Tequila straight, I myself forgot that last Friday night, after a 15 yr abstinence. Top Shelf Margaritas on the other hand….no problemo.

Enjoy the occasional off wine topics on WLTV!

I’m self employed, so I already know pretty much everything about me.

Although I no longer drink the hard stuff, I did enjoy tequila show.
    Way to mix it up.

I’m afan of Mexcal, its rough around the edges but it is smokey, the laguvulin of tequila.

QOTD: I am, and have always been, a proud deadhead

    Gary,

Interesting…never thought to drink Tequila in the chillax mode. I just left my 20’s, so I only associate tequila with a shot glass, wedge of lime and salt, if you know what I mean. I might have to wait another year or so before I attempt to sniffy sniff any kind of tequila (had a huge fight with Senor Cuervo about 3 years ago. I lost, obviously. He flushed my face down the royal throne)

    Good show!

Nice way to mix up the thunder show and keep it fresh. I’d go with the Cabo Wabo any day over the Patron.
QOTD- my co-workers know virtually nothing about me. My “boss” knows that an I am a wine enthusiast , other than that I am a private person and plan on keeping it like that. I don’t plan on staying about my job for long anyway..

A great sommelier and past guest Richard Betts introduced me to the idea of tequila as a drink to be taken seriously. He suggested it as a digestive after an epic six wine dinner, to which I replied “The only way tequila could help me digest this meal is by making me puke up this entire meal.” But I do love good tequlias as a warm weather alternative to scotch. I’m a big fan of Souza in particular as an undervalued brand.

QOTD: People at work have no idea how much I’m a science geek (was a nuclear engineer as an undergrad) or a thousand other interests. I try to keep it that way.

Oh and Von P, Gary was definitely slurring and sloppy by the end. No spitting of the hard stuff?

  • Great show – good to see Tequila getting some exposure. QOTD – One of my co-workers is my girlfriend so I have to exclude her from this, but my colleagues don’t know that I would love to quit the wine trade and run a Formula One team! Failing that, I’m really happy working in the trade I’m in

Oh my god yes! Thank you for opening people eyes. I love tequila and get the same wierd looks but it is so fun to educate people about the complexities of tequila.

GV: Great show… I love the way you have moved into differnt areas of the PAL pleasers.
QOTD: I would say they probably don’t know how much I am into exploring new and exciting wines. Great QOTD!

  • Abel

If you are going to talk about tequila…you must try (and the store should sell) Don Eduardo. There is simply no comparison.

Fun show. Time to bust out the Patron. I haven’t tried Cabo Wabo yet.
QOTD: They don’t realize how passionate I am about life in general and how important it is to enjoy life as much as possible at every waking moment! Roll with the punches, always look for the silver lining – life’s too short. I agree with you Gary… express your love to family and friends!

QOTD : I can’t see, or the boys in blue will be around. btw – talkin of getting pissed, in Australia it means something completely different, and drinking tequila is a sure fire way of getting there 🙂

Great show Gary. I’m not much into the hard-liquor, but have been meaning to expand past the Jack and coke.

QOTD: I absolutely friggin’ love aquariums. If I’m traveling and I have time, I always try to find one.

I love tequila so I’m glad I got to know a little more about what I’ve been drinking. Mostly Patron.

And in answer to the question:
I make music videos to shows I love and am completely absorbed by fandom.

  • Shawn_944

QOTD: People at work do not know how passionate about wine I am, my friends know…

Awesome show Gary, like the the toss up to Tequila!

As much as I love wine, I think that mixing it up (no pun) w/other spirits (beer included) is a great idea.
