  • I love having shows like this mixed in. I have been falling behind on my WLTV and this was a nice change of pace 🙂

    QOTD: I think a lot of people at work think I’m a bit odd because I’m outgoing. What they don’t know is, while I’m oddball and goofy, I also care very much about doing a good job and helping others. I think sometimes that gets lost with some.

    Tequila is in an interesting state. There are some good, traditional brands that really taste like tequila. I like Corralejo Anejo for sipping. I recently had a fancy top name tequila that tasted like mediocre cognac, they used so much oak. Cabo Wabo and Patron are OK, but I think there are a lot more interesting ones than you had today. BUT thanks for doing it.

    I’ve only recently started sipping Tequilas. It started when a friend brought some back from southern Mexico that (I kid you not) tasted like some great scotch. Definitely a fan of the Patron, and prefer some of the lighter / delicate / more balanced Tequilas. Big fan of Don Julio Reposado (and 1942 is excellente!) and Herradura Silver.

    QOTD: I’m the social planner of the office. Whenever anyone wants a particular type of bar and/or restaurant for an event here in Chicago, they ask my opinion first. 😉

  • Tequilas are not my faves but I love to learn! QOTD: I work at home so that’s hard to answer but most people do not know that I used to work as a 911 operator and police/fire dispatcher. FUN JOB, stressful but fun.

  • I own a coffee shop, and people don’t know that I cringe when they ask me to put caramel or chocolate in their shot of espresso, that I worked SO HARD at roasting to perfection, Grinding to perfection, and pulling the perfect shot, thick like melted honey perfection… and they ask me.. BEFORE THEY taste it to add bullshit to it. Other than that I’m an open book at work.

    I am pumped about the tequila tasting because I just got home last night from a cruise and one of the ports was Cabo San Lucus. I picked up some Cabo Wabo and am looking forward to pounding some.

    I think Paul V has a good idea comparing coffee, Gary. I recall your tea tasting episode out of London, thought that was interesting. QOTD, most of my workmates dont know about my passion for good wine.

    I’m really glad you chose reposados to review rather than anejos, which really don’t taste of tequila at all, just wood. Personally I really like Tres Centannarios reposado, but I won’t turn down any good tequila…

    QOTD: That I love shoes… shoot a mean game of pool and appreciate a nice cup of tea. They already know about the wine and coffee addictions… is that good for my career?

    I use Jose Cuervo to make margaritas. I was told not to waste expensive tequila in margaritas. And for straight up, it’s Patron. I don’t think I’ve had any besides those two brands.

    I struggling to catch up from vacation. I’m getting there.

    I know it’s against the point of this show, but watching this show reminded me of a college incident.

    We were at a party, having a good time, shooting tequila in the usual fashion (salt, shot, lemon). When me and a friend suggested to another that we do “stunt man shots”. Our friend had never heard of these, since we just made it up.

    So, we convinced our friend that he should snort the salt, shoot the tequila, then squeeze the lemon into his eye, and that the Adrenalin from this is awsome.

    “Ok, you all doing it too?” Hell yea, we answer, but we’ll let him go first since he’s never done it before, and we were “old hands” at it.

    The burn from the salt, mixed with the sudden spash of Tequila, and the heavy squinting caused him to caught and wheeze so hard he immediatly got sick. Since he could not see, it just spun around horking like a yard sprinkler.

    Collapsed on the ground contorting, and…from there, face down in a puddle of sick, he asked “who’s next”.

    Like I said, not really in the spirit of this episode, but it did remind me of that. 🙂

As much as I love WLTV, I get a huge kick out of the non-wine episodes. In this episode, like the Scotch episode, it was fun seeing Gary a bit out of his element, but still finding ways to educate.

    Like most people, I didn’t have much of a positive impression of tequila except as something to shoot, or something to put in a margarita. Until a couple of months ago, I went to a mexican restaurant in SF that served tequila neat. I had the Tres Generacciones Reposado and that changed my view on tequila forever. It was smooth and rich, and made me think I was drinking a mid-range whiskey, or even scotch. Have not had a chance to try an Anejo, but expect I will find myself similarly charmed. Thanks Gary for bringing the thunder to a vastly… a VASTLY… under-appreciated spirit.

    Nice! Ive thought about tossing some coin on some high end tequlia and youve pointed me in the right direction. Always looking to expand my pal! QOTD: Probably my bizzare sense of humor. I work in a kitchen in the mornings prepping food items for the night crew when no one else is there, so Im not in contact with a lot of people. The only people who work there who know my sense of humor is the other cook who works mornings with me, the restaurant manager, and the head chef. Most of the front of the house doesnt know how odd I can be, mostly cause Im not there when the restaurant is open
