I’m bummed out about the schwag. My first week of classes made me a weekend watcher 🙁 I’ll have to get back to the daily watch schedule.

Never had Egyptian wines before! Too bad the samples that were sent to you seem to be the very basic examples. Nonetheless, it’s great to see wines from around the globe on WLTV. Cheers!

No Egyptian wine here. My favorite t-shirt is not actually one that I own. It’s one w/a chimp dressed up like Che Guevara, and it says “Viva la Evolution!” Cracks me up.

I had some Egyptian wine when I went there a few months ago. I forget the name, it was ok. The place is great for history, but has by far, the most aggressive street vendors I’ve encountered. Also, as a side note, when you go to a mostly Muslim country with your wife, make sure she wears dark colored clothing, has her shoulders and legs covered. We learned after the fact that women wearing bright colors are basically saying that they are available, if you know what I mean. 🙂

QOTD: No Egyptian wines. Had a few Turkish wines, another country dominated by non-wine drinkers.

Not such a great show, but has more to do with the raw material you had to work with.
QOTD 1 – never had an Egyptian wine.
QOTD 2 – My favorite T-shirt is from Moose, WY where I found an excellent wine shop while I was on vacation. It says “Life is too short to drink cheap wine”. Second favortie T-shirt says – The Roogle has landed, Honesty, Integrity, Barbeque. This came from the Grateful Palate.

I am in oil & gas exploration & I have t-shirt with a quote from J. Paul Getty that reads
” Rise Early, Work Hard, Strike Oil” – probably have to be in the biz to appreciate that.

Never had an Egyptian wine (not exactly inspired to by todays show). As Dan-o posted ” Life’s too short to drink bad wine” – soooo much truth in that, especially given all the good wines out there.Maybe it should read ‘Life’s too short to drink all the good wines”

Hi Gary – I’ve been wearing my gray Vayniac t-shirt to bed lately, so I would have to say that’s my current fave.
Not dying to try Egyptian wines after this show (and never have before).

PS – my wife wanted me to point out that the “not available” subtitles when discussing the wine in this episode were spelled incorrectly. She is kind of a geek about that kind of stuff.

QOTD: I like my warm plaid shirt that I got from Value Village. It gets me very warm when I’m cold.

QOTD1: Never had a wine from Egypt. QOTD2: Im a dress shirt and sweater guy. I havent worn a t-shirt with a saying on them in years. If I had to choose I guess the 1995 Mariners Divison champs t-shirt. Great watching them make their first playoff run. God only knows where that shirt is today.

Great show…….good information. A bit surprising though to think that a muslim country produces wine but it is a good thing.

I just came back from a Nile cruise with 40 friends, a good portion of whom were foodies and oenophiles. We were extremely disappointed with Egyptian wine, and even switched to cocktails as much of it was undrinkable. The Obelisk wine that you tasted was far superior to all other local Egyptian wine. Why? One theory which was widely held is simple: the Egyptian government currently slaps a tariff of between 600 – 3000% on all imported wine, making any non-Egyptian wine essentially unaffordable and thereby protecting the Egyptian industry. As those tarriffs slowly come down in the next decade, I think Egyptian producers will be forced to improve their game.
