  • Great show! Loved the subtle ‘one ups-manship’ on the tasting notes. Awesome.

QOTD – With everyone I respect, enjoy, and love.

  • Yo Gary VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV!

Cool episode with wines from across the border…. (I am in Spokane, as you might guess…)

A few things. First, I checked out Four Grace’s website, and you did indeed have their least expensive pinot noir today. They have several ranging from $27 to $75 for their top of the line cuvee.

Also, I checked out Leif’s blog, and it is pretty freakin’ funny! If anyone else is interested, it is worth checking out for a few laughs, some good reviews, and a few quotes from Leif’s favorite philosopher… if you want to know what I mean, you gotta check it out. As someone above said, it was cool to see a second viewpoint from someone else who actually knows what they are talking about!

QOTD – “my way” would be having enough money to buy the very best fruit from Washington State vineyards to make my own wine.

One of your better shows and not because you were doing my hometown wines. I liked the play back and forth with you and leif.

GV and crew – I am a lurker no more! I’ve been watching for a while and have finally left a message…

Some friends and I were in the Pacific Northwest earlier this summer and enjoyed some great wines from Washington and Oregon, especially. We toured and sampled some great Pinots from local wineries in Willamette Valley. (The local breweries and beers were really good too. Hint hint for a “special” show idea. I would gladly help you sample!)

I had Four Graces for the first time last weekend in St. Louis with some friends. I agree with your review – we all really liked it and enjoyed the different complexities it had. I’ll definitely pick up some more of this Pinot, especially now that WL ships to Wisconsin!!

Haven’t tried Boedecker yet, but hope to soon.

Go Packers! Congrats on Favre and we’ll see you in the Super Bowl.

Great Show Gary! May I recommend that your taste the Meredith Mitchell, 2006 Single Vineyard from Raptor Ridge the next time. An outstanding wine. Glad to see you liked the Chehalem Reisling, a solid wine for sure.

QOTD: Oregon Pinots! Ditto on Family and Friends…and big ditto on Shipping to all 50 states!

    Cheers…MRB

awesome show and I enjoyed the guest. Would be cool to have have a somm guest on the show every once in a while, it’s nice to see two experienced and contrasting palates leading to different and insightful takes on wines. I was really stoked to see the four graces on the show, one of my customers at work is part of the grace family and gave me a bottle of the pinot gris which i liked quite a bit, cant wait to tell him to check out your show!

  • The powder cinnamon in US is cassia (Cinnamomum aromaticum). The cinnamon in Mexico is Canela (Ceylon cinnamon) 🙂 super aromatic bark sticks (or quills) with a pretty brown color. I love canela with arroz con leche (rice with milk)

Good show. I really enjoyed your guest. He seemed very knowledgeable. Pinot based wines are favorite. Birmingham, AL has been getting Four Graces wines in for 3-4 year now. The one you tasted has become one the hottest selling pinots in Birmingham. I personally like all their pinots.

Raptor Ridge is one my very favorite wines. I tasted the 2006 at the IPNC in July, and thought it was a little weak compared to their previous vintages. I got mixed assessments of the 2006 Oregon pinot vintage from the trade guys, as wel as from my own tastes. My overall impression is that 2005 is a better vintage, but I am still treading lightly with that thought since the 2005’s are a year older.

Following your review of the Boedecker, I went straight to a local shop and ordered some. A week later, I was at Liner & Elsen in Portland, where they let me tastes some, and bought some more. Then at IPNC I got to tastes still more. I thought it was among the best Oregon pinots I tasted at IPNC.

I must say you are a LEGAND. I’ve been watching for a while and am now hooked. Im having a Train Your Palate Party this Friday, minus the soil, pepper and clove (for obvious reasons)

    Another great show!

QOTD: If I could have my way, I would get rid of the tax on wine.

    FOUR GRACES…..now this is freaky!!

We just went to a lakeside haunt for some great steak and they suggested a new pinot they were carrying called Four Graces. I’m always EXPANDING and said sure. We really like it. It was very smooth and enjoyable to sip eben before the meal, as well as during. We killed two bottles over 2 hours watching the sun set.

So I’m glad our wavelinks are still in tune and you liked it.

  • Excellent show. Glad to see you back in the groove. I have bought three bottles of the Boedeker wines but haven’t opened them yet. They are on the drink first bottle by spring list.

But for cryin’ out loud, can’t WL provide your guests with their own spit bucket? : )

Leif showed some impressive tasting skills and commentary and brought the best out in your game, Gary. Great Show. I think you should invite outspoken and experienced tasters on your show more often (but not too often because it is you we love) who have an angle or specialty, Oregon being Leif’s.

QOTD: Gas would be 5 cents a gallon, because cars would run on water.
