qotd: never really got any real high end zin’s, I remember liking the dickinson vineyard from ravenswood, gino’s vineyard from sbragia, and one of the higher end renwood’s can’t remember which

not to defend any of those wines at all but 2005 was certainly not a good year for California zin.
I can’t imagine wanting to drink a zin with thanksgiving

Hanna ( bismark ) from sonoma county is unbelievable. You should try some.

We need the fire and passion back into the WLTV intro! The energy in the show is awesome. Seems like your toning it down for some reason and not being true to your DNA. What did you do with high flying Gary V.

    Love the program 🙂

Your prediction on the Jet/Patriot game was in accurate but you are probably correct that Cassel is going to lead the Patriots to the playoffs again. That team always has a good season no matter who gets injured.

Not much into the Zin but I will have to try it out more

Yes, interesting secret pack, esp, well, I guess I can’t say

I have to admit I rarely pick up Zins any more, as I think they are over the top and over-priced. I’m much more likely to have Primitivo or a Petit Sirah where other people go for Zins

  • crank

    I’m in. Go PATS!

  • QOTD: 2004 Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel though I have to say it wasn’t my favorite by any means.

Wow, that was a gorgeous plate. Sorry about the Jets, Gary.

You mentioned the Turley Zinfandels and I’ve really enjoyed their wines when I’ve had the opportunity to sample them. The Frank Family Zinfandel from Napa was quite good. I’ve been amazed at the variety in flavors present in some of the Zinfandels I’ve sampled; some seem to be quite spicy while other makers capture a very fruity jam-filled flavor.

I really enjoyed the double-blind format with your price estimates (just wish wine price could match taste “value” a bit more closely)!

    Keep up the great work!

QOTD: Haven’t had a favorite Zin.
Sidenote: Saw you in the October issue of Food and Wine. Congrats on that!

  • Lynda S

i don’t buy zins very often because they tend to be super expensive. i can only remember trying the 7 deadly zins by michael+david. it was not that terrible.

QOTD: Frank Family Zins. Not because you raved about them last Thanksgiving, but because they are gooood!

Sorry about the Jets. Could be worse. Could be, like me, a Lions fan 🙁

This is why I hardly ever buy domestic wine! The prices are completely out of control, and Europe and other imports are becoming pricey as well. Finding value wines in American is very difficult and it’s very frustrating to people who love wine.

Good show, perhaps an idea for a future episode would be a discussion of the costs these makers are experienceing.

QOTD – have tried the 7 Deadly Zins but was not blown away by the wine, it was servicable (I like that term).
