qotd: never really got any real high end zin’s, I remember liking the dickinson vineyard from ravenswood, gino’s vineyard from sbragia, and one of the higher end renwood’s can’t remember which

not to defend any of those wines at all but 2005 was certainly not a good year for California zin.
I can’t imagine wanting to drink a zin with thanksgiving

My favorite right now is the Frank Family 2005 Zin. Wonderful and about $35 bones as you would say.

QOTD: Big Zin Fan!! Presently I love Brown Zin, and Michael Chiarello’s Zin. Unti is also very enjoyable. Tough to narrow down. I have some Frank Family Zin but haven’t tried it yet—only briefly at a tasting–might have been last year at the Super Tasting.

QOTD: Any Zins from Robert Biale Vineyards in Napa Valley. They’ve got a great reputation as being a “Zin house” and deservedly so. A bit on the pricey side, but soooo worth it! They have a range of Zins from different vineyards, but my two faves are the Stagecoach and the Black Chicken.

Runner-up is Porque-No? from Tres Sabores (Napa Valley). GREAT with barbecued chicken (especially if you use the amazing Porque No? BBQ glaze that owner/winemaker Julie Johnson created).

Pedroncelli Mother Clone (Sonoma) and regular Klinker Brick (Lodi) are VERY good Zins for less bones.

My favorite used to be pre-Fetzer Mariah Zin made by the grower, Dan Dooling. Have been impressed by the 2004? Baxter Zin recently but for the buck, Edmeades is a pretty good deal.

  • Hey Gary! I’m always a fan of the blind tastings–keep those coming!

QOD: I’m not recalling having a Red Zinfandel in a long time, stumped me on this one.

Informative program. Zin quality is still not as good as it was in the mid 90’s, but prices continue to escalate. Hard to find a good zin less than 20 bones. My favorite zin producer is Paul Draper from Ridge. A close 2nd for Rosenblum.

Ridge zins are always good. My favorite zin year in and year out is the Scherrer Zinfandel Shale Terrace.

Not a big Zin fan, however I do have just had a very, very nice one from Four Vines, Maverick, 2004. Tremendous wine.

Sorry about the Jets… (NOT!!) 🙂

The only Zinfandel I’ve tried was a 2004 Wente Vineyards (California)! I quite liked it!

Since the prices already seem a little off, I’m going to have to go with Turley juv. vines.

As always…love the blind tasting format.

Hey I like “Cliff wines.” Taste the wine, then taste the food, then taste the wine again, then the food, rinse, wash, repeat.

Lol guess the economy surprised you today too huh?

  • Gosh I love the double blinds. Just wish you carried them.

QOTD: Hands down, the Haywood Los Chamizal ’05. Amazing juice.

Best Quote Of The Day: “They don’t have the Euro in CA!” Funny

Since I’m vacation on the Outer Banks, I will be attending an all NC tasting tomorrow night. Should be interesting.

    Cheers

P.S. The Colts squeaked one out and sorry, your boys hung tough but lost.

QOTD: Rancho Zabaco Stefani. Was discussing this with someone the other day who looked down on RZ Zins since he wasn’t aware of the Stefani. If you’ve only tried their regular $15 bottle…look for the Stefani, usually around $25 bones.

On another note, sorry to see the Pats take the leader board Sunday. Now that Brett is over there, and our firm is planning their new facility in Florham Park, I’m rooting for the Jets (second only to DaBears!).
