qotd: never really got any real high end zin’s, I remember liking the dickinson vineyard from ravenswood, gino’s vineyard from sbragia, and one of the higher end renwood’s can’t remember which

not to defend any of those wines at all but 2005 was certainly not a good year for California zin.
I can’t imagine wanting to drink a zin with thanksgiving

QOTD: I haven’t found a favorite zin yet. As we saw, the price points for this varietal make it a little rough to get in and try too many different ones. I do want to try Black Chicken though. I have heard only good things about Robert Biale.

  • QOTD: I don’t have a favorite yet, but I love trying them. When I was in Napa in July I really enjoyed the Zins at Rubicon (05 edizione pennino) and Montelena (05 estate zin).

QOD: My favorite Zin that I have recently had was the 2006 Opolo Mountain Zinfandel it retails for about $20, but I can only find it on the west coast. It would be great if a NJ based retailer would be able to pick some up…

  • GV – This episode simply rocked. I loooove the blind episodes. Love ’em. Super fun – esp. if you don’t scroll down for the wine reveal. QOTD – I’m partial to Rosenblum’s Rockpile Road Zin. So different.

Very enjoyable episode, though I prefer watching you taste wines WL carries.

The best Zins I’ve tasted so far were the 2004 Haywood Zinfandel Sonoma Valley Los Chamizal Vineyard and the 2005 Ravenswood Lodi Zinfandel Old Vine.

BTW: I predict that Favre will turn out to be an imposter, that he will retire again at the end of the season, if not sooner, and that the Jets will convert to a single wing offense next season.

  • I’ve only ever tasted one Zinfandel!
I can’t even remember what it was called.
    : (
I do hope to taste more though.
There’s just too much wine out there to get through!

    Good show.
    QOTD: Turley Zin Old Vines

I’m sure the Jets have something up their sleeves.

  • QOTD: In general, I’m not a zinfandel fan. My dad LOVES zin and growing up whenever I tried wine, it was Dad’s zin, which inevitably didn’t like. It took me a while to realize that it was the zinfandel that I didn’t like and not wine in general. Now, as my palate expands and changes I am warming up to zins, but I resent them a little for keeping me from wine!!
Currently, my favorite zin is the Gnarly head 2006.

Just got back from Dallas today, had to go see my boys kick the tails off the eagles!

QOTD: favorite zin? probably the 2001 Saxon Brown I have in the cooler (last bottle too ack!) Second in line, probably 2005 chase vineyards, Hayne Valley.

A recent favorite is Turley Juvenile 2006. Wow! I liked it even better the following day after opening. We have another bottle on hand for Thanksgiving.

It’s been mentioned a lot but it deserves it….Biale Black Chicken.

Also love the few Carlisles I’ve had, but most of mine are resting for a few years before drinking. I’m sure there are a few in there that will rival the Chicken.
