Cool green wristband. Is that the Statue of Liberty? Are they included in the upcoming secret packs (hope-a-hope-ahope)?

QOTD: I have had some local Chard that has been pretty good. But all in all, have not been drinking a ton of it lately. Like the wristband. Hopefully Monday will go better than your prediction..even though I can’t root for the Jets as a Pats fan.

QOTD: Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay, 2007. Tasted at the cellar room door last week and was completed surprised by how good this was. Also, Veenwouden Chardonnay 2005 – limited production, but just insane.

Good comparison tasting of St. Verans. My 2007 Cloudstone Chardonnay is being poured this afternoon at the Duveneck annual humanitarian awards Dinner at Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills.
Although only bottled two months ago, this wine has received extraordinary accolades from our friends and neighbors. The grapes were grown by Ventana Vineyards in Soledad, California, Monterey County.
Sadly, I only bottled 24 cases and it is already mostly gone. My hat is off to Reggie Hammond, Vineyards Manager and winemaker at Ventana, who sells me a barrel of this delicious juice every year.
Need to buy another French oak barrel for this year’s wine. They are quite pricey do to the weak dollar and are going for close to $1,000 each. My Chardonnay is valued at $ 30 per bottle but we have none available to sell. Sorry.

A new region for me to explore – thanks again Gary!

The last Chardonnay which really made an impression was a 2003 Sandoval Vineyards (Kenwood, CA) sourced from Napa Valley – if you like buttered popcorn then this one’s for you! We just kept marvelling at the aroma and flavors of this beauty and the price was a pleasant surprise too!

Hi! To be honest, I’ve fallen out of love with Chardonnay as of late – I’m just tired of the grape. But, once in a while something astonishing comes along and even I have to admit that it’s dynamite. At this moment, the Chard I actually regard as being worth drinking is from Lynmar up in Northern CA. Lynmar produces Chard with such amazing balance – oak, fruit and acidity – and they are delicious. So, Lynmar Chard. There you go.

QOTD: Favorite chardonnay over the last couple of weeks was a 2004 Kistler Hyde Vineyard. The oak monster was present big time, but still well balanced with refreshing acidity and apple fruit.

Great show. You’re so great at opening up insights into more and more wine regions, and I really love the exploration to Burgundy. Thank you for sharing the knowledge, sharing the passion.
Most of my recent Chardonnay has been from Burgundy (a few 06 Macons) or Israel (Castel, Yarden stood out). But I’m moving to Napa next month, and am looking forward to trying the new vintages (Fransician & Prix both impressed me). I’m sure there will be some great ones near San Diego, which I’m sure will taste even sweeter if the Jets win. Good luck with that.

I’ve been off of chard for a while and decided to pick up 3 or 4 recently to try. The best one was 2007 Coppola Gold Diamond Chardonnay. I will definitely pick up some more.

    QOTD –

Not a big Chard drinker but enjoyed the Franciscan Cuvee Sauvage 2005. Very rich and complex but pricey. Also liked la crema 2006. A great buy at about $18.

Have some burg chard I’m waiting to get a bit more bottle age. In the mean time I
    keep digging other whites more!

Kongsgaard, Aubert and Rochioli are mindblowers…..A bit expensive and hard to find, but they are equal to, or exceed the French Montrachets

  • Great show as usual Gary! I cannot off the top of my head recall any really GOOD Chardonnays that I’ve had in the recent past, but I’ll keep trying them!

Too bad about your Jets, but EVEN WORSE that my Pats were humiliated by the lowly Fins…I guess we can both wallow at the bottom of the AFC East!
