  • QOTD: My wife, Molly, definitely.

She helps me write great tasting notes and can pick out aromas and flavors almost as well as Gary. In fact, we have a deal with local wineries whereby they give us three bottles of wine for free and we write their official notes for publication. Pretty fun!

Last wine 15 years too soon? I can see 5 years from now, maybe 8, most 10. can’t drink after 10 years (2015)? Then vollie this bottle to launch your neighbors new rowboat or canoe, esp after dumping $93 on a ? mark.
QOTD: someone who can hold their own with me drinking vintage port and laughing in amazment how good it is…

Good education, which is what I enjoy about your programs.

QOTD – As my wife does not enjoy wine I really do not have a wine drinking partner, except for my son in law that I see on occasion, but not for just wine drinking.

Great show! I love Burgundy, and Pommard is a good entry point: sophisticated enough to show what the really good Burgundies can do, but at a much lower price point. For me, Pommard almost always needs time to soften the rough tannic edges…especially the great ones. Man, I love when Burgundy shows smoky, mushroomy, barnyard nuances, and great complexity along with its typical silky texture. When its right on, it is king.

PS: I think the flower was a pansy.

  • I love Burgundy as well and miss not drinking it due to the ridiculous prices for my favorites. I have not been a big fan of Pommards because I just find them too meaty without much elegance and elegance is my reason for drinking Burgundy. I have many favorite people to drink with. First my wife, them my kids, and finally several best friends.

Even though my dad has no taste for higher quality wines, I still love to drink with him. I only get to see him a couple of times a month, so we open a bottle or two, talk, play darts, its just a lot of fun.

I have not had the pleasure of a great Pommard since the late 70s/early 80s which would have made the vintage around 73ish.I once considered Pommard my all time fav.

I would have to say I most enjoy drinking wine with my wife Irina (who by the way is native Russian) but a close runner up is my oldest bud “Jersey Joe”
