QOTD: Johnsonville Beer n’Bratwurst, mash pots, and sauteed onions…magical with a German Kabinet Riesling

BTW the dinosaurs died out approximately 65 million years ago while our ancestors (homo) arrived about 6 to 7 million years ago with homo sapien sapien hitting the scene only about 100-200 thousand years ago. So while I agree with your initial premise that there have been tougher times for the species of homo, it is not possible that the said tough times included instances of dinosaurs eating man.

Great show, Gary. Good to see the combination of mass-market value wines and something special.

I’m guessing that everyone finds themselves stopping at the corner bodega or convenience store at some point or another, when you’re heading to a dinner or a party and need to buy something last-minute. It’s good to have an idea of what to expect from those on-every-block wines, and which ones might be the best. (I bought a Red Bicyclette rose at a 7-11 a few summers ago because it was next door to a BYOB Thai restuarant, and that worked out fine.)

QOTD: Broccoli Rabe, Italian Sausage(out of the casing), fresh garlic, whole-wheat pasta(Aunt Berta’s from WL)dome chicken broth, topped with parmesan and a little red pepper. Already opened a 2003 Moris Farms Avaltorre from Tuscany. Might have enjoyed an Italian white wine, instead. Sunday–undecided. Maybe an Oven-Stuffer Roaster. Should keep the eating light, in preparation for Monday evening’s Grand Tasting.

  • QOTD: Will be throwing together some risotto, most likely with peas and carrots so I can use up some chicken stock I made earlier in the week. Unfortunately I am tapped out of white wine, and will need to pick a red for it, or go with beer. Both bad choices. Also will be putting together some dough to rise over night so I can bake it in the morning.

Long time lurker finally getting ’round to say “love the show”.

QOTD – Tonight is blackend chicken, roasted redskin potatoes, broccoli and sweet corn. Trying this with a white burgundy, ’cause i’ve never had one before… bit of a gamble. Also making cabbage rolls for tommorrow ’cause it just seems right for this time of year…

  • “with a little bit of butterscotch spray…I don’t even know what that is!” THAT was the winning one-liner that made me laugh out loud. There is always one. My review of your review is 88 out of a possible 100. Why? Too much sports stuff, Gary. I don’t mind the Jets, but now sports cards? How about some entertainment for us women? 🙂

As for what’s on the table this weekend…tonight was Cornish Hen with sage stuffing, mashed, gravy, cornbread, no veggies. Sunday will be leftovers and maybe some homemade soup with the leftovers.

pork ‘porkolt’ (calling it a stew is an understatement) with some SE Aus Shiraz. Oldvine Zin after the chocolate-based dessert. mmmmmm….

Concerning the Tokaji, I’d definitely rate it higher. I remember you could find it ~$15 in Tr*der J**’s a few years back. Maybe it wasn’t Hetszolo (although Tokaj is a small region it still does matter which vineyard it comes from.)
