Yes, I’m very very happy. I love this show, in part because the ’01 Nuit St. George from Faiveley was one of the outstanding wines in my memory. I bought it rushing through Charles DeGaulle Airport duty free, and shared it with friends much later. It was stunning. I wish i could invest in some of the 05s and 06s, but perhaps soon. Thanks again Gary for the burgundy shows. They are invaluable learning experiences.

qotd; no. the farmer who promised to sell me grapes to make wine apparently “forgot” and sold them to someone else, thereby sabotaging my first attempt at making wine from grapes. So i guess ill have to settle for 2009 🙁

  • Awesome show! I always love the shows where the actual winemakers are there giving us insight into their wines, their areas, and (like with Charles Smith) their interesting character! Feel free to do more shows like this.

QOTD – if I were any happier, I would need to change my shorts!

  • I always appreciate a dedicated guest who doesn’t rush his answers, and really thinks about what he’s going to say.

QOTD: I think that as a country (USA) we are expected to be happy all the time, and if we aren’t there must be something extremely wrong. To be truthful, I am not happy overall. My wife, children and certain parts of my family make me very happy, but besides that, things could be a hell of a lot better.

I loved this show! I have been buying Faiveley since 1996 so this was quite a treat. The dialog was a bit hard to follow at times but I need to see it a couple more times.

You are correct about the closed or “dumb” phase that the wine will go though, emerging sometimes, beautifully.

In the spirit of a down economy and weak dollar to Euro conversion perhaps you have some “value” Burgundy alternatives for us? Perhaps some Cru Beaujolais?

  • RonD

QOTD: Sometimes! Unfortunately my coefficient of “happy” is highly influenced by “work”; happy that I have it, unhappy with what it currently entails

I thought it was a great correlation when you said that the middle wine had a Kasha, that is, cooked grain type of nose, and your guest said there was a spice bread or gingerbread type of nose. Both smells are cooked grain.

Absolutely wonderful show. Maybe not as energetic as some, but to “meet” someone from the winery is always a great experience. This is exactly why I love wine. I mean, I certainly love to drink wine, but I have taken many trips to wineries and wine regions and it is always a great experience to see the region and get to know, in some sense, the winemaker and/or owners.

    QOTD: YES!!!

    Spoken by an Irishman!

QOTD – Je suis tres heureux! Granade is the word for pomegranate!

A very good show and a tremendous guest.

QOTD – I am satisfied as opposed to happy. I think I see too much badness in the world to be completely happy.
