Not sure about the short format with one wine, but love the way Gary translates Mott’s comments into what he was actually trying to say!

Great show Gary! I was watching on UStream, so I had a preview.

I like the shorter format, but agreed w/ Mott. I’m thinking 4 shorter (8-15 min) shows plus one long one (20+ min) would be great.

Quick question — how come winelibrary can’t ship to Michigan, but other NJ-based websites can (sterlingfinewine dot com for one)? I know of at least a dozen people that would order from your website if it were possible. You’re definitely the best online retailer.

    I like the format.

  • I like the format…..but no sniffy sniff and whether “YOU”…like it or not? I love it…. but it’s whether they like it or not. As if THEY have a choice.

Maybe you should start swallowing instead of spitting.

    Always works for me….lol

    😉

  • The head-to-head format is the absolute best for so many reasons. You can do those and bring some knowledge to it as well.

I have to say that I LOVE the shows with lots of “fun facts”. I like the way everything is now…I have no problems with it.

  • QOTD I: Must say, that i was very impressed by the quality of the 05 vintage from pierre amadieu, esp.: cotes-du-rhone, Vacqueyras and gigondas. Great stuff. And the pricing is still moderate.
QOTD II: A single-bottle-show with more educational content is a good oportunity. But sill like the 3-6 Bottel-Battle more

Good show, you should def. add this type of show into the mix (once a week or so). And I was all set to tell you about the one Lirac I’ve had this year (2002 Domaine de la Mordorée La Dame Rousse — fantastic!). Since I don’t think you specified a red Rhone, I’ll go with 2007 Château de Nages Costières-de-Nîmes Rosé

Good show. Like the data shows. Are your offices still full of cases of wine?

How ironic I just purchased my first Lirac yesterday

Château de Ségriès Cuvée Reservée Lirac 2005

for $15. I put in in the cellar, but now I may have to pull it out and try it right away.

QOTD: Côtes du Rhone Chateau Mont-Redon 2005. It was delicious I gave it 92 points

I think this format could work well. More info about a specific wine style and some of its’ history. Only drawback with a single wine is getting a poor example of the style.

  • manonthemoon

    Nice show

QOTD 1: 2005 Marc Sorrel Crozes-Hermitage Blanc was the last bottle that I had that I really liked. Nothing like the white blends from rhone.

QOTD 2: I like the short format for a change of pace and would like to see it for Friday shows. Still the best format ever is the monster tastings like the Washington state you did hundreds of episodes ago. Even though it was long it was nice to see the comparison between so many different wines.

Gary & Chris, Looked up Lirac on Wikipedia. Lirac has to be just a few miles from/include the same area as Chateau Pesquie. I was looking at the map of the different regions in the Rhone. Actually Pesquie owns parcels in several regions I see there on that Wikipedia page. I remember Fred talking about several of those specific regions. When you own such diversity it helps you to make complex, multi-dimensional wines!!!!

  • This kind of format I generally like much BETTER. What I mean by this kind of format is the teaching something new. These days I know quite a lot about wine, and early on I learned most of it from watching your show. However, lately I just don’t really learn much. And honestly, unless it’s a new region, I don’t really care much about your tasting note (unless I have the wine). I still watch all the time, but I’m not as excited about watching the show as I used to be because it doesn’t have as much actual content as I’d like. I don’t think that you need to do just one wine when you do this format (three is fine), but certainly discussing SOMETHING interesting about that wine (the region, the vintage, the history… there’s so much about every wine out there) would make me continue to watch for a long time. As it is now, I sometimes wonder why I watch every day…

QOTD: Probably the most interesting Rhone I’ve had recently is the 2000 Cave de Tain L’Hermitage Cornas les Nobles Rives. Yeah, it’s produced by a co-op, but I score it 92-93 points every time I have it (and still have 12 bottles left)! Delicious…

    David

Gary & Chris, On the second look at this map on Wikipedia I see Lirac. It is very near but not the same area as Chateau Pesquie!!!!
