Not sure about the short format with one wine, but love the way Gary translates Mott’s comments into what he was actually trying to say!

2004 Ortas Cave de Rasteau Cotes du Rhone Villiages Prestige – Excellent! In fact I posted a comment a while back that the wine/region I was most disappointed with was Cotes du Rhone, but after I had this one, I’m a believer! I do like the episodes that focus on the regions and wine styles more than trying to get through so many bottles, which can be difficult to find the exact ones.

I’m playing catch-up again. I like a mix of short, education about one wine/ type of wine episodes and longer interview & multiple wine episodes.

A friend from our wine-tasting group who drives long distances for his business keeps up by listening to the audio on his iPod, but for those of us who are visual (or have relatively short drives) it can be tough to keep up with a run of 25+ minute shows…

Thank goodness I caught up in time to snag an election day secret pack!

Playing catch up myself. I like the format quite a bit (sometimes it’s hard to keep with with you Gary). I especially liked one wine, shorter show, more in depth about one wine or area (I enjoy finding about value areas).

QOTD: Cant think of any I have had (I need to start keeping tasting notes UGH!)

I liked the show, although I am not unfamiliar with Lirac. I would say that I do like this type of show as well as many other types that you’ve done. Please continue to mix it up – interviews, knowledge bits, blind tastings, bargain shows, 4 nice wines with a theme (or not), etc.

QOTD: I recently had a 2005 Alain Graillot Croze-Hermitage that was wonderful. I think he is the best Croze producer there is and his son Max is pretty darn good as well.

    Hi Gary.
Like this format a lot, must seek time to fit in your show every day.
With them not being that long every day it will make it easier.
Like the info so carry on my friend..

    Greetings from the Netherlands

  • Gary, I like the shorter, more focused format. It seemed like you were able to get your message off without being rushed and really got to dig into the wine. I wouldn’t totally abandon your normal format though because as we all know: too much of a good thing can be bad.

  • QOTD: The last wine I had from The Rhone was (and it wasn’t as interesting as the price which was $45. usd.) a E GUIGAL SAINT JOSEPH 2000, and it was just OK. The wine merchant recommended it from a Pomerol and a Spanish wine for a birthday party but I guess we didn’t let is sit long enough, because although it’s 100% Syrah, it was a bit hot and went down with a considerable amount of bitterness but with a long taste. I don’t know, it was “Interesting” but at 45 bucks, I think I will wait for a younger vintage before trying it again.

-I think you should try and do both formats, long and short depending on the day of the week and the wines and lessons to be had on the show.

I really like this 1 wine deal, especially when you are reppin the little regions that are value driven. I am a struggling young guy in the wine industry and ANY of this good info really helps expand my palate and get further with my career. You really do, make my 2 jobs easier by sharing my knowledge that I am now passing on to others. Keep these micro regions rollin son!

Very cool. Thanks for the knowledge. Agree with a few comments above: one wine, lots of information is terrific.

    gary:

the most interesting Lirac I have tried has been 2005 Lirac Mordoree La Reine Des Bois Rouge…its up in price range but blows away most lower priced CDP which have not much character…go find some..worth seeking out…

Great show Gary. Like the format a lot. Almost feels like you could go all multi-media our collective butts and incorporate pics, etc. from the region.

Never had a lirac but like its Rhone brethren so will definitely give it a go.

Great show, love the single wine format, ‘droppin knowledge’ … I really like the idea of mixing it up.

QOTD: Lots….but unfortunately I can’t remember the names!

Good to be back and catching up on the shows. This one was awesome, I LOVE these educational shows (though the scientist in me wants you to know that your information is not data 😉 )!!! I love learning about new areas, and don’t mind the lack of wines on the show.

QOTD: I’m poor… Domaine de la garrigue ’05

Great show love the short format, one wine, more education.

Q – Good ?, had more Rhone disappointments than winners lately.

1999 Domaine Gallety Côtes du Vivarais, $17 this April.

My local shop had culled it off his distributor’s list of leftovers.

Vivarais is (I think) the most recent Rhone appellation (1999) so the Gallety I drank was one of the very first to appear in this new appellation.

Not great, but great promise. Keep an eye out for both Gallety and Vivarais in the future.

I love the format. A little education is the only way to expand people’s palates. I love CDP’s and I’m going to seek out Lirac.

    Gary V,

I’m pretty new to the wine game, but I had a bottle of Chateau de Segries, Lirac Rouge, Cuvee Reservee, 2006. It was probably my first introduction to the Rhone Valley. MY GOD, it was amazing!

I like these short shows since Im trying to catch up to the current ones, but I prefer a good 30 minute show with guests or a live crowd. Theyre more fun to me, and having fun is very important in wine, no? QTOD: Cant remember the last one I have had, if one at all.

QOTD: Had a small sample of Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 1999, my first Hermitage, was very nice, £60 a bottle, probably a better QPR than Bordeaux, but can’t help thinking better value in Rhone than this.
