Not sure about the short format with one wine, but love the way Gary translates Mott’s comments into what he was actually trying to say!

Hey I like the short informative segments. May be good to split up your weekly shows into some of the various styles of shows you have been experimenting with.

However I have never been bored watching any one of your show, so if it ain’t broke don’t fix it

Favourite Rhone wine I experienced was while I worked a vintage in Chateau Neuf Du Pape in 2003. Through work I experienced several top end rhone wines however a cheeky and cheap bottle of cleanskin Chateaux Simian (orange) 2001 Rose shared with a gorgeous french girl (who couldn’t speak a word of english) on the banks of the rhone river will beat any moment

Love the shorter, more concise format for sure. One wine, more in depth knowledge about the wine definitely works for me.

    Keep it up!

Very good episode. Definitely appreciate this format as a new learner. You break the subject into small bites, or small sips as the case may be.

QOTD I have yet to have a Cotes du Rhone, still working on the basics.

Yo GV & CMott – Definitely like this format for one show a week. I enjoy learning more about the wine and getting a deeper knowledge of the region and whatnot. Doesn’t even matter if the particular wine turns out to be MEH or a PAZZZ, it’s still interesting to me.

You could link up a Google map or some other visual to show the region you are dropping knowledge on, too.

This is a good format worth incorporating, IMHO, to keep it fresh and interesting.

  • I like this format and think it’s excellent for people new to wine. It’s really interesting to hear about the facts that are behind the wine!

Hey GV, just caught up on a ton of shows. Really like the sports cards, I love those things. Surprised you didn’t know who John Farrel was, he is the pitching coach for the Red Sox and you got a Magadan card, the hitting coach for the Red Sox.

I do like the one wine show with the content, especially when I am playing catch up as I was the last few days.

I definately am in favor of the deeper explorations of various wine regions. I’d like to see shows with 1-3 wines & as much wine info as possible. Tips on what to look for in various wine regions (terrior differences, vintages, producers) would be very useful.

QOTD: P. Rivere made a NV CdP that was kosher and by far the best Rhone variteal made kosher. Only slightly better than average for the price, but finding a good kosher CdP was an interesting find. Hopefully A Cow Jumped Over the Moon, the importer, brought in more of the same quality, since it sold out quick on the East Coast.

I dig the format…but think you should mix it up. You should drop the thunder on us like you just did at least once a week. Most important is length of the show. Once you get into 20 minute plus territory, it can be a touch too long. I’d be interested if you can compare your stats based on length of show.

I can’t name the last Rhone wine I had. Very sad.

Hey GV, I know I’ve been slackin on leaving the comments. It’s getting harder and harder for me to watch everyday. I like the one wine with lots of information show. Bottom line, I like your show period. I do like the shorter versions though. Keep it real.

Oddly, I happen to be sipping a Guigal Brune et Blonde 03 before I tuned in. I was thinking “not for the price.” Not bad but…$$. I actually much preferred the K-Vintners 05 Cougar Hills Syrah. (on this night I might emphasize. maybe tomorrow my opinion would change). Tried the 05 Chapoutier La Bernardine CdP the other day and loved that, but it was 3X the price of your Lirac. I guess a Perrin & Fils Rasteau L’Andeol or their Vacqueyras would be the most recent Southern Rhone that I enjoyed. Those were about $15-20.

This format I liked. But, the main thing I like- – -is not knowing what the format is going to be. Like the baseball cards one day, the action figures the next. You getting up and walking around the bldg to show the stacks of 2005 Bordeaux. Keep us guessing. The more serious interview w/ Erwan Faiveley, that was great too. It is good to get the stats but I can go to the WS or the winery website for that. The one out in the freezing wind was good. You should do that more often. Stil can’t believe you caught that glass w/out really looking.

  • I like the one wine format. I think it is just as entertaining to drill down into one wine. Never had a Rhone yet, but going to the Homestead at the Borgata this weekend. Time to hit the winelist Rhones.

I like this format a lot. Keep mixing it up with the blind tastings, the guest interviews and the BURGANDY SHOWS! Love bacon fat and the silky – ness of those wines

    aloha!

I like the format and learning aspects. I want to keep my knowledge growing about wine and this was good. Many of us want to drink good wines without paying a fortune for them, so this is a good way to let us know about high value wine regions.

    Great Show!!!

I definitely like the education aspect of the show but I do like multiple bottles on the show for comparison. I do understand you only have one Lirac in the store for this show though.

QOTD: It’s been a while since my last rhone wine so I couldnt specifically say which was my last interesting one but I tend to stick with the CDRs when I’m in that area for price.

  • I like this format pretty well. I think you should do more episodes where you go into more informational/educational information about wine culture, wine history, and especially specific regions that produce wine. I’m a budding connoisseur and its nice to get some extra insight on things I’ve never heard of… just like this. I’d never heard of Lirac, but now I’m going to try to find a bottle.

BTW, I know you wanna do the shows where you’ve never had the wine before, but honestly, I don’t mind. I just want you to tell me about wine. Good, bad and ugly. Whether you’ve had it before or have never heard of it, doesn’t matter to me.

  • Hey Gary

Good show. I like the format, interesting and still enjoyable. You’ve got layed back Fridays, why not do an ‘Educational Wednesday’ or something???

QOTD: LAst wine I had from the Rhone that I really enjoyed was Domaine Paillère & Pied-Gu Gigondas 2003, nice wine: interesting, structured and fragrent.

    Cheers

First, I must comment that I really respect that Mott can remain quite candid and honest whenever Gary suddenly asks him for an opinion. I always appreciate Mott’s views, and I feel they are refreshing compared to the many kiss-ass, somewhat standardized comments we are used to hearing.
QOTD: As an everyday, affordable wine, I think that the Paul Jaboulet Aine Parallel 45 Cotes du Rhone is great at about $10. I just had the Perrin & Fils Cotes du Rhone Villages 2006, and it was earthy and quite good.

GV, I LOVED this EP for at four reasons: 1) Huge fan of Rhone valley, always have been. 2) I think you filmed this EP around the same day I was in the store, we were talking about value in Rhone and Languedoc, and you said “Try this Lirac!” 3) The format of digging deeper, sharing more info one wine per EP is much appreciated. The length of the show was perfect; it was not so dense as to be boring. 3) Totally agree with the comment that so much of Rhone has become out of my price range for usual drinking. It is upsetting to see CdP’s we have been drinking for years are now nearly twice the price of what they were just four years ago (e.g., Pegau). Consequently my list of what we have consumed recently (QOTD) shows you where we normally operate:
    1) 2006 J.L. Chave Mon Coeur Cotes du Rhone (every time I drink one of these I dream of what the Hermitage tastes like, which is now $175-200 and up depending on vintage.)
    2) 2004 J.L. Chave Mon Coeur Cotes du Rhone
    3) 2006 Domaine Francois Villard Les Contours DePoncins Viognier (Tx Alec!)
    4) 2005 Chateau Pesquie Cotes du Ventoux Terrasses
    5) 2005 Patrick Lesec Bouget Cotes du Rhone
    6) 2005 Andezon Cotes du Rhone
    7) 2004 Chateau du Beaucastel Cotes du Rhone Cadoulet de Beaucastel
    8) 2005 Galus Costieres-de-Niemes
    9) 2001 E. Guigal CdP
    10) 2006 Domaine La Garrigue Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Romaine
In general it has been a little tougher drinking the ’05 CdR’s, as they tend to be young/tight due to the huge vintage.

    Gary,
PLEASE do a show on TAVEL of Rhone! This would be a timely entrant given the approaching Thanksgiving Holiday (and my birthday this year). Website shows that the store carries at least three offerings all of which are reasonably priced. Thank you, CK

I like maybe half and half of both formats, that way we can get 2 pr 3 extensive 3 wine shows and then a couple quickies.

    Great show though…GO PATS!!!

Hey Gary…I like the format and insight provided in this episode. Maybe mixing it up would be good, because I do like when you review 3-5 wines.

QOTD: Domaine Feraud-Brunel Cotes du Rhone Villages 2003. Very enjoyable.
