Classic East coast vs West coast personality contrasts: Mile-a-minute, raw, in-your-face, call ’em like I see ’em, no “holes” barred, “you tawkin to me?!?” take no prisoners “bubble yum gum paintball shot” vs calm, pensive, overeducated, painfully thought out, esoteric, eccentric (kooky), mellow, wet stones/minerality treehugger California. Not to say that one is better than the other, just observations.

  • Great show, Gary.

You can tell that these two guys move at different speeds, and you can see Gary get antsy and want to push ahead. Good stuff.

I could listen to Randall all day (would rather talk to him, but I’ll settle for this). I’ve had Le Cigare Volante in a couple of vintages and it has ranged from killer to just OK.

  • Wow!! I’m a big fan of Randall Grahm and really great to see him on your show, Gary. It was so cool for me, selling something so different like Bonny Doon (in the German Market). I was really sad, that the german importer has to drop it, by the change of brands. Anyway, super-pumped to see him here and can’t wait for #564

This is my kind of episode. Bring more of this. I love to hear the opinions and views of these wine icons. This is super educational and well worth the slow download. Gary, one criticism/comment, to me it seemed like you were cutting Randall off a lot, or maybe put another way, it didn’t seem like he could get a sentence in edge-wise in a few cases. I really wanted to hear his full thoughts and analogies, etc. on various topics, like the cork vs. screw-cap, but it seemed like you were in a hurry to move on at points. I’m sure you have your reasons, but in the future, with such intriguing guests, let them have their say … and then some more. Love it all. Thanks!

  • I really liked the talk about the salty air affecting the operations of different wineries. I also liked the insight on the difference between trends and fads. We learned about that last week in class.

Ya gotta ease up on interjecting, let the man speak already! Stop for second and realize that The Randall Graham had to grab you by the shoulder and tell you to shut up. Whoa.

Love the direction you’re taking WLTV with more (wine) content. You will never be dry or boring, you don’t have it in you. And to have a god on your show, well, now that’s some thunder, man.

  • Really enjoyed the show, great discussion. Please though, stop leaving the bottles in front of your guest. Put them in front of Gary or just get them off the table. We get a clear shot of GV the whole show and have to look at Randall through the bottle necks. Mott – once you get a clear shot at the guest you might also want to keep him in focus.

GV – One of my all time favorite episodes. It is nice to have someone who humbles you a bit. 🙂 Can’t wait to see the next part.

Randall – Thanks for taking the time to come on the show. There are a lot of viewers that learned a lot from your discussion.

Really great show (was to quick to say the recent episode with Joe was the best so far!), and what a wonderful guest : not only does he have a huge knowledge, but he proves to have a great sense of humour and seems very kind
…too kind maybe, because I would have given you “dos hostias” (2 slaps, as they say in the north of Spain), Gary, for you were always interrumping him when he was speaking! I know you’re very enthousiastic and it’s your way of being, but too much of it and you come over as badly behaving (and it even works on my nerves)!
For the rest : I’m longing to see the second part!

Excellent show. I for one, Gary, believe you have improved as an interviewer. Keep working on it and, who knows, we may soon be watching you on Cable hosting the “most passion wine-show” on TV!

Fantastic guest. I visited Bonny Doon about 7 years ago and it definitely was one of the highlights of the trip. Purchased one of their library wines which WL has carried in the past–Le Telegram–don’t remember the vintage–probably 96-97-98?Lots of Mourvedre–perhaps 100%. I remember sharing it with my cousins at an outdoor party and couldn’t stop describing it. Everyone loved it. Spreading the thunder in the early years….
Also while at Bonny Doon we purchased several large posters of their infamous labels, framed them and they adorn our walls all over the house.

    Gary,

You remind me of Joe Morgan when he’s doing commentary during baseball games. Always interupting, talking about “back in the day” and stating what you think. I value your opinion when it’s just you doing a show but ease back when you have a guest. It’s not always about you.

    Great episode!
If you could move a little that bottle from the Randall?s face that would be even better.
Gary, I wish you had shows like this more often.
