Classic East coast vs West coast personality contrasts: Mile-a-minute, raw, in-your-face, call ’em like I see ’em, no “holes” barred, “you tawkin to me?!?” take no prisoners “bubble yum gum paintball shot” vs calm, pensive, overeducated, painfully thought out, esoteric, eccentric (kooky), mellow, wet stones/minerality treehugger California. Not to say that one is better than the other, just observations.

    Great episode!
If you could move a little that bottle from the Randall?s face that would be even better.
Gary, I wish you had shows like this more often.

  • Yo Gary Veeeeeeeeeeeee! Cool show. Randall Graham is like Charles Smith without the caffeine! Great to hear some history behind the man and the brand. Randall has been doing some things up here in Washington State lately as well. Maybe in Part 2 you will get into that? Loved the salty talk, too. I have heard about that before. I also agree with some of the other Vayniacs – get those bottles out of the way so we can see the man! Don’t put them in front of you, though… we want to see you as well. Great show – keep shows like this coming when you can!

Fantastic show! Love Randal’s temperment. Smooth and relaxed. Almost European in some ways. Learning a great deal.

Can’t wait for the second part later today. Nice job guys!

I agree with Chippewamike 100% — Randal’s temperament is wonderful. I also happen to agree with AJ 100% — the interrupting is a bit much. And playing with your guest’s hair, Gary?? Please.

This episode, aside from the distraction/interruptions, is terrific. Thanks very much for having him on.

  • Great episode, I’m very much looking forward to the 2nd part. In a heck of a coincidence this past weekend I had a Bonny Doon Cigare Blanc with some oysters and also happened upon Randall’s two page “ad” spread in Wine Spectator and now here he is!

  • Hey Gary, Have you guys thought of making a WLTV app for the iPhone?

Great show. I always wondered what Randall Grahm was really like. I still wonder, but found him to be charming, provocative, and entertaining. Would like to hear a bit more detailed discussion on the effects of the screw cap on bottle aging. I read Randall’s 10 top reasons for using a screw cap on JancisRobinson.com and was very entertained.

Definitely a great guest to have on but for sure, Gary, let’s hear what Randall has to say. I’ve noticed before that you do a lot of interrupting. Sometimes less is better as in wine manipulation and in the host talking. Looking forward to the 2nd half hour.

It’s Thursday about 4pm. I was checking to see if part 2 was up early because it’s taped and noticed that there were only 86 comments. I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vayniacs, have you no soul? This was true informational entertainment and there you are sitting on your hands? Join the party! No wonder Gary threatens to quit every now and then.

We’ve got soul. Maybe some are just fed up with some of the self-serving antics that comes out with a roaring thunder from time-to-time on the show.

Nice show.. great to find out some history and stuff… One personal suggestion: you might want to give some time to breath and express your guest’s opinions too.. I love everything you have to say.. and you are one of my icon… but when you have a guest and someone who is also “a wine guru”, let him give some talk and you might not want to interrupt that often. just a thought… @dmistry

Gary, dude, when you have a guest, please shut your yammering skull cave for a minute, especially right after you ask a question! When you’re solo (which seems about 90% of the time), blather all you want in your stream-of-consciousness style…we love it, that’s why we’re tuning in. But when you choose to bring in a guest, you gotta make some adjustments…

    Gary,
Steve is right on with his comment. I was really trying to hear what Mr. Grahm had to say and it was a bit difficult because of all the interruptions you kept making.

Randall is great, informative guest. I’ve been a dewn wine club member for sometime, but have never had the chance to hear him talk about his wines and the why/how of them. Even though not all the Bonny Doon wines are what you might call “flavor successes”, I love his experiments and unconventional approach to wine.

I really enjoyed Randall. What a great character and such a nice guy! A lot to be learned from him.

Gary, I agree with many people that have already stated sometimes you just talk TOO MUCH! If you have a guest, let the talk and don’t interrupt! Listening and not saying the first thing that comes to your head is an important attribute, even for building “your brand” like you like to say. A lot to be learned from him.

Anyway, still excited to watch part 2.

Randall Grahm, one of my wine heros! Clos de Gilroy was my first Grenache and I’ve loved Grenache ever after. Looking forwarded to more Randall Grahm tomorrow.
And, Gary throttle back a tad, I know you’re excited, but let the man speak.
