Gary – I understand completely about the swishing. I catch myself doing it with iced tea and go “what am I doing?!”, it’s ridiculous. But I have to remind myself that its not a habit for most people, and at the wine bar I work at, I am constantly preaching its virtues, along with the sniffy sniff. You should absolutely not pay $15 a glass for any wine if you aren’t going to breathe it in first and then coat your entire palette with it. Nice to see some love for your pops today.

QOTD: Three hours after watching the Phillies win it all, I’d have to say its the end of an era for the New York Metropolitans as Steve Somers calls them.

Also, I enjoy the episodes where you pick varietals that you have never done before (I know this is a tall order to fill), but now, I am intrigued to try Pecorino, a wine I had no idea existed 25 minutes ago.

To you sidebar, I think Jerry Manuel is much better than Willie Randolph in the fact that he keeps his team loose without ignoring the issues at hand. Willie used to just say, “Oh, we’ll be fine” and stay in his own world. Manuel seems to “get it” a bit more.

QOTD – don’t know about the Mets but I’m reasonably sure my TX Rangers won’t make the playoffs. Hard to do when your #1 pitcher would be anyone else’s #5. Not one of our pitchers would have made the Angels roster.

WOnder if that wine goes well with novaoaine. I have apptointment for an inlay/onlay crown on an old filling in a few weeks and I’m bringing a bottle of that 2007 Ciavolich Aries Pecorino to the dentists office and I’m pull a Sahsa on them. Rinse with it and just drink ity while I’m in the chair.

See, now I can’t wait to go to the dentist!!!! Thanks Sahsa!!!!!

I am a red wine drinker, mostly tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon because I enjoy full bodied meaty kind of wines…so after hearing your review on the Pecorino and mentioning that it would stand up to a steak, you’ve definitely sparked my interest. I have not seen that varietal where I buy my wines, but I am for sure on the hunt mow. Thanks.

QOTD – I’m not sure where the Mets will be this time next year, but I will celebrating the St. Louis Cardinals 11th W.S. Championship with some nicely chilled Cava!!! 🙂

Gary, love that you’re dad made an appearance on the show, albeit half off-camera. I think it would be great if you had him on the show as your “guest”. He could reveal some embarrassing info, share some perspective – good times to be had by all.

The Mets? WTF is that all about? On the night the Phight’n Phils are playing for the World Series Title, we’re talking about the Mets? BTW..Jerry Manual is a good guy, but the OZ is better.

It is an excellent idea to have less educated wine drinkers as guests occasionally, as a way of showing people that it is perfectly okay not to know how to break down the aromatics of a wine or know what region Grenache comes from. I loved this episode because of your guest’s real-ness. I’m sure I will never drink any of the three wines you tasted today, but I got something out of this and I was entertained. So bravo.

QOTD: The Mets will not make it to the playoffs next year. Like the USA, the Mets are in for some painful down times.

OMG! Gary, you are my new best friend! I too love wine – grew up in a Portuguese home, where my dad made homemade wine. Although, I really didn’t start to drink – and ENJOY it until about 5 years ago.

Now, as a mother of 5, a Realtor in 2 states – NY & CT, and a wife to an extrememly hard working guy – I LOVE my glass of wine at dinner!

As a Realtor, we often give wine to the first 12 agents to entise them to view our “Open Houses” – so, I love a wine with “Thunder” – one that tastes BIG but costs LESS.
