    Hi Gary.
You focus on the wine in front of you without paying too much attention to how others rate it, you have your own mind. This mindset has led you to great success. So do the same with your own unique, one of a kind child. A child unique even from it’s siblings to come. Follow your heart and instincts and you will be the “SUPERDAD” of a “SUPERCHILD”.Congratulations from a mom of 4 g-mom of 3. Happy day…

Congrats Gary and Liz; That is awesome news!
My wife just gave birth to our second child on Jan 2nd. and it’s so wonderful to be holding a baby again! I missed that. My first, Logan, is 5 now so it’s been a while.

Since you’re having a baby, this would be the perfect time to do a show on what wine to put away for your kids, maybe even other beverage suggestions as well, like scotch or whiskey…

QOTD: Patience! Besides unending love, the best virtue a parent can have is patience.

QOTD: Always say yes unless there is a really good reason to say no.

Let me throw in a second one from my father-in-law 29 years ago. “Don’t miss a day, because you will turn around and they will be gone to college.”
He was absolutely correct and I am so glad I followed his advice.

  • FirstLite

Congratulations! Get as much sleep now because there will be none when the little one arrives home.
Also, girls can be more than cheerleaders. They can do anything! Including wrapping daddy around their little finger. 😛

  • Congratulations to both you and Lizzie on your incredible news, Gary!

Thank you for the chance to leave my thoughts since I’m a dad (you met Mr. Max at your last live taping of the show in the store). I would offer up only this–whenever you can, any chance you get, look into your child’s eyes.

    Congratulations, Gary!

As a father of two daughters, my advice is to pray for a son. 🙂

Actually, savor every moment. Ferris Bueller said it best, I think:

“Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

  • That is truly a blessing! Congratulations to you both, and to your families!
QOTD: Hmmm well I think you will be a great Dad, Gary, but just remember that Baby V will inherit his or her parents’ qualities but will be his or her own unique person. Well, you won’t have to worry about that for a while, but :-).

    Congratulations to you and Lizzie!

    Four pieces of advice:

    1) Savor every moment for they grow up WAY too fast.
    2) Travel less – trust me on this one!
    3) Prediction: You will be too concerned with doing everything “right” with your first child. Don’t be. They are resilient. Also, you will try to protect your child from everything bad in the world (of course). You will fail. It is okay. They will learn from the bad as well as the good.
    4) In any situation that occurs, try not to overreact (you will anyway). 🙂

Best of luck on the next phase of your life.

BTW, why was there no Thunder Show for almost a week?

    Congrats!!!
WTF: the Castellani La Cattura is already sold out?

QOTD: After your kid is born put some oil around the rear-end. The 1st couple of poops will be meconium and oil on the skin makes it easier to clean off the poop.

Side note: To increase you palate’s vocabulary, you may want to taste the meconium.

I wish you and your lovely wife nothing but the best. It is an amazing event on many levels. One day this little person does not exist, the next day you would give your life in a heartbeat to make sure that he/she is healthy and safe. Life goes into hyperdrive. My “babies” are now 24 and 20 but it still seems like yesterday we were taking them home from the hospital. My eyes are starting to well up, yours will do so soon. Congratulations.

    Gary, Lizzie and BabyV,

Congrats to all of you! That is wonderful news and I know you will be a wonderful family.

    Advice for parenting
-Use your own judgment and learn from your mistakes. Listen to peoples “advice” ….. and then do what you want. You are the parent and you learned from your awesome parents. So, you are ready!!!

Advice for child birth (this can be and emotionally charge “E” Ticket ride).
    A. For our first child I looked at it as we were a pair of rookies going into the super bowl. So we brought in a pro bowler in the form of a Doula (a fancy word for a birthing coach) to help us. This was the greatest money I have ever spent. In our case it gave us someone that is highly experienced, focused on our birth (the nurses and doctors were amazing but sometimes focusing on lots of different things happening) that could help us with decisions during the epic 24hr roller coaster ride that we went on. It also helped that she worked at the hospital so could “guide” us through the hospital “personalities”
    B. I wish someone had told us that Breast feeding is not always as easy and natural as you would think. So, if BabyV only Sniffy-Sniffs at the Mommy Wine Bar and doesn’t sip it – is okay – it might take a few days to get him/her on board. This sounds relatively simple but it is an emotional time and we have heard the same from many friends… it can be very difficult for the mom emotionally if they think that they cannot feed their own child.

But above all enjoy the ride!!! it is a wild one…

My biggest piece of advice is to tell your kid(s) stories from the time they can understand them, and make sure that you and Lizzie are part of the plot. The stories can be complete fairy tales with no (or very little) basis in real truth – it’s OK to lie a little. My kids are now 18 and 16 and still talk about my goofy stories. This will form such an incredible bond you won’t believe it. They never considered me a fraud or anything once they were old enough to figure out that I was bullshitting them. They still love the stories.
    Try it, you’ll see.
Congrats – this is the greatest thing that will ever happen to you and your wife in your entire lifetime. Even the ’61 Petrus that I was lucky enough to try about a year ago is nothing in comparison to the joys of parenthood.
