Gary, Congratulation my friend! Fantastic news!

Here’s a little news: I became a father for the second time on New Years Day 2009! In fact, we had the New Year baby in our area! Check it:

QTD, Advice from a father of two:
Kids are amazing. And I know this will sound cliché: Expect the unexpected and love every minute; your children really do grow up fast!

Congrats…If you want my advice, enjoy each moment which precedes the teenage years because that’s when things change. This little human who was so close to you all of those years suddenly finds you very uncool. So there will be some detachment and its a bit of a shock. Someone made a comment about the baby’s first poop. Very sound advice. This is strange but we found ourselves looking forward to it. I think my wife applauded. Lastly, I would recommend not being too much of a disciplinarian. Something which sounds logical to you is often viewed as an invalidation by them and it could stifle their confidence.
    Best of luck.

Gary, first off, congrats to you and Lizzy. My wife and I just had our first baby in November. My biggest piece of advise to you is to just enjoy the whole experience. Your baby’s birth will be something you will never forget.

Congrats!!! We are also expecting, though not until August. I have a 2 year old boy and my advice to you would be to enjoy every moment of their childhood. I have found that if I concentrate on slowing down, removing distractions, and giving my child 100% focus when I get home from work, I am able to enjoy each wonderful moment. Wonderful news!!

    Congrats!

As everyone has correctly said, enjoy every moment, time flies by. But I’d emphasize:

Spend MORE time and LESS money on your child. Especially when they’re young.

They’ll forget all the expensive stuff you bought them, but they’ll remember every time you took them camping or even a bike trip through the park.

  • First, CONGRATS!!! QOTD: Be strict with your kids because they need boundaries and rules…but at the same time spoil them to death! If they get grounded, spend an awesome night at home playing games as a family and eating lots of ice cream. If they screw up at school, make sure they know it disappoints you but them take them to a movie or something. All about balance.

    Congrats Gary!
Not a parent, but I have nephews. QOTD: Talk to them (as babies) as if they were just small adults. Don’t use baby talk. Talk lots (as if that will be a problem for you). Let the entire family be involved in the rearing.

  • Congratulations Gary! The best advice I can give you is make sure your child feels both you and Liz are his/her best friend and he/she can always come to you. It is a dangerous world out there, and the last thing a child needs is to feel alienated by his/her parents.

Congrats! There has been nothing in life that means more than my two daughters, I am sure you will feel the same.

QOTD – For the next 10 – 12 years you will be the most brilliant father, protector, provider, and somewhere along the line you become the village idiot. Just ask your 15yr old. 😉

Best wishes to you and your family!

QOTD: While I don’t have any kids of my own, I am a gay uncle to two wonderful children under the age of 4, and the best piece of advice I can give you is to be nice to your kids, answer their questions the best that you can, and never, ever stifle creativity in them.

Gary, Finally finished the episode! As I stated in my email, man I’m so stoked for you…Fatherhood is the bomb. My advice? buy some slippers if you have a boy, cause LEGOS and bare feet is the worst thing ever.
