two lines of the day – ‘this is like your best friend in the world coming in dressed as the opposite sex!’ and the one that made me laugh out loud: ‘this smells like a garbage truck on fire’

Phenomenal episode. First double blind ever, featuring less well known wine-growing states. All wines panned hard but that’s when the best one liners come out…and this show was full of them. Awesome

  • Thank you Gary for breaking down how you figure out a wine. I didn’t know smelling was that important when figuring out a wine.

QOTD: I don’t live in a State. I live in a Province in Canada. The province is Ontario.

Nice effort, the wines turned out about how I expected. I might actually visit a couple of local places this weekend on my way down to the rent’s.

Interesting show. Thanks and congrats again on the big news!!

QOTD: IL. And, I’m a little bummed that you didn’t do a wine from this state. Why? ‘Cause they suck and I want the world to know that. Why? Because the idiotic legislature here wants people to think that they’re actually worth buying and hid that in their anti-shipping laws. But, that’s another topic.

  • Thanks Gary, That was loads of fun to watch. Your expression when you poured the last wine was priceless! And loved the descriptors, “New bathroom smell”, “Garbage truck on fire”, “Chinese restaurant”. Thats good stuff!

Looking forward to tomorrows double blind! Hopefully things will go better.

    QOTD: California

  • Great show Gary!! Always great to see wines from nontraditional states. I think you should check out some wines from Connecticut. I have been up to some of the vineyards and there is some stuff that I think is pretty good. My favorite is Stonington Vineyards http://www.stoningtonvineyards.com/. I really like their Seaport White wine. Also I quite like Alba Vineyards from New Jersey.

    QOTD – DIRTY JERZ!!!!!!!!

Wow, a winery I know!(even if it came in last) But that’s (in my opinion) their worst red, although I’ve never seen it that color before! they’ve mostly gotten away from the red hybrids

    pronounce:
    Ponch are train

while for 15 years across Lake Pontchartrain in N’Awlins (Pontchartrain Vineyards is on the North Shore) now in NC near Yadkin AVA

(and I assure you, there is worse wine made in Louisiana than at PV, at least as of 2006)

  • Love the enunciation for the intro… lol

this was a great blind tasting! I was cracking up watching you. Hoping that there would be some Vermont wines though… (went to school there and had a few – interesting would be the word)

I’m gonna go watch this again…

“this is a wine show on the internet?” oh you were kidding, wow, feeeew, dont do that. you scare me.

  • shawnandlu

Great show Gary, I laughed my ass off. Way to take one for the team. I don’t think I have ever seen a bright orange wine before.

QOTD: California, we have real wines here. Only France and Italy can even hope to run smack at our wines and even they are jealous of the quality of our fruit.

Great job on the wine varietals. This was a fun episode. QTOD – You can see from my WL name that I live in Georgia, but I have lived in several states in the midwest and southwest. All are good in many respects. We live in a great country and are very lucky.

Great episode. I can’t say I’ve ever bought a St. Croix; I’m sure I’ve tasted that varietal though. Tough break for the “other 46” on Wine Library TV, but I can’t say I’m too surprised.

You’re totally right though, the more people that start to enjoy local products and put some investment into their area, the better quality their wines will be. You can never give up on your home team.

Don’t give up on us “other 46” Gary 🙂 Keep bringing them in!!

Loved the show. Now you know how I feel most of the time tasting wine, with the label in front of me. Blind tastings are very enjoyable to watch.
Are you ever going to make a trip to Italy and taste the wines there as you doin France?
