  • QOTD Yes we get a few here is Australia. I made a great Sorbet from it with a lemon base. Refreshing and so unique.
Peter Rumball Sparkling Shiraz is another red wine for the dry summer months too.

QotD: Nope, never had one. Valentine’s is a good play, though, and I might just do that.

    Hey Gary!

Love your show. I found you via youtube on your Scotch show a couple of weeks ago. (MORE Scotch shows Gary!)

Being a CKC, I had not heard of today’s libation, nor it’s notorious past (I’ll ask my folks about it for sure though!). But I think I would really enjoy it. I will definitely “seek it out” as you say. :o)

Got a question for you. You like to drink your white wines at room temperature, do you treat your sparkling wines the same way as well?

QoTD: don’t recall ever having a Lambrusco… and I’m ashamed!

Have your ever tried Via Emilia on 21st street? Their cuisine is all Emilia-Romangna and the presiding wine is, you got it, Lambrusco! This place is inexpensive, but good eating. And the spacious-for-the-city, 1980’s Italian decor makes for a unique dining experience.

Nice show – I’ve been a small fan of Lambruscos ever since trying a great one at Total Wine Bar in Brooklyn a year or so ago. Unfortunately most that I’ve seen are very 1D, but I agree they are a smash hit for brunch menus (Lambrusco and french toast?)

  • Great show!

I found the stat about the number of internal searches for Lambrusco interesting. It made me wonder what other insights about consumer wine trends can be gleaned from internal searches on WineLibrary…

This is exactly how all your shows should be. Informative with great enthusiasm and not too much crazy talk. Pure pleasure.

  • Is everything okay GV? You seem just a little down today.

QOTD: I’ve had a few, but didn’t really care for them. They were from the grocery store and rolled in at like $4 per bottle.

QOTD : Have I ever had a Lambrusco? Golden Gate lambrusco : $5 (aus dollars – more like $2.50 of yours at the time) for 5 litre bag in a box in my student days – obviously it wasn’t real lambrusco, it was horrid, but the price was right 🙂

Hell Yeah! I love Lambrusco. I think all four searches on WLTV were me.
Be sure to check out some Lambrusco on corkd.com
First tried Riunite brand at Olive Garden Restaurant. Way over priced; they are selling a single glass for the same price of a 750mL bottle.

You should be able to find Cella brand Lambrusco Dell’Emilla Rosso (mild carbonation) on the shelf next to Riunite at a dollar more.

I’ve never had Venturini Baldini, will try it soon. I do know if your luck enough to can find Ca’De’ Medici brand Lambrusco Cubista, you’ll be hooked. (heavy carbonation and huge flavor!)

I haven’t tried any Lambrusco in years, and I’ve never been a fan of the demi-sec sparklers. After today’s show I may have to give them another shot. The color on that wine was amazing.

In my youth in England Lambrusco had an awful reputation, but recently I was convinced – against all my ingrained predjudices – to try one that was very good indeed. I’ll check on the name and get back to everyone tomorrow!

Well Gary, you finally did it. I’ve been watching for hundreds of episodes, and this is the first comment I’ve ever left.

I had my first Lambrusco a year or two ago when I was at Cost Plus looking around and they were doing a tasting. The guy told me that it goes great with pizza, and that’s what we were having for dinner. I brought it home and my wife and I loved it. We have both been drinking red wine for 5 years or so and love to try different kinds of wines from around the world. Typically my wife will try something new and say it’s nice but not comment on it again. Well, we sucked down this bottle of Lambrusco and have had many since. Your assessment of Lambrusco being the “beer drinkers” wine is pretty accurate – it’s really easy to drink.

I’m a little too young to remember the dark days of Riuniti, so I Googled Lambrusco after first trying it because I couldn’t figure out why I hadn’t heard of it before. It’s a shame that so many people are afraid to give this great drink a try. If you’ve never tried Lambrusco before, go out and get a bottle!

Thanks Gary for a great show and for shining some light in on a forgotten corner of the wine world.
    Cheers!

  • Sorry I’m in so late. i carried a great Lambrusco made by Caprari i think. we sold lots but no one else around did and the distributor lost the account. it was dry and pretty and wonderful. It was a great way to get people that thought they didn’t like red wine to change their ways. Now those customers drink red wine but i miss that Lambrusco. anyone know another dry Lambrusco out there? Wisconsin needs you!

I brought some lambrusco home from Italy in my suitcase when I was in college- it really was my introduction to red wine, and helped me transition smoothly into a lot of the drier stuff.

    Gary Vee,

Christopher J. Mott pays the same price for his Lambrusco as do I?

Somehow, I’m beginning to feel better about myself and the things I’ve done.

    Regards,

    Bernard Madoff
