line of the day – ‘grandma in the kitchen with her mayonnaise face’

Really interesting episode that highlights how much wines can change when paired with food. This is a landmark show for me as I think it was the first one I ever saw. I watched a few after this one but then went back to the beginning of the archive and have just caught up to where it all started. Still loads to see, which is great, but not sure what I’m going to do for kicks when I get to the end!

Marquis Philips is completely unknown in Australia and virtually unavailable – it’s another example (ie Yellowtail – which is widely available, but derided) of the Aussies taking the proverbial out of the Yanks by offloading paint-by-numbers wines manufactured for the least discriminating end of the US market.

John P – Melbourne (not an Aussie though)

My fav is Cacao Reserve by Hershey’s Signature Collection Dark Chocolate with or without the cacao nibs with 65% cacao. This chocolate is creamy, not to bitter or sweet, and decadent with red wine.

My favorite chocolate…no question about it, Gary: Hershey bar with almonds.
I wonder how that would have tasted with the 2004 Chat De Tourettes Grenache D?endes?
    Loved this episode man!

Not sure what is happening lately, but this video and episode #619 do not work on an iPod.

I watch all the episodes on my iPod, through the podcast, and every episode has worked fine.. except these two (and I’ve been watching since about #400).

Would love to get this fixed asap!

But for domestic chocolate, Rick Bristow’s SXUL Chocolate is hard to beat: http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/story?oid=oid:258622

In fact, Rick would make a fine guest on WineLibrary TV.

Good episode and good information. I have become a big fan of the “Le Gormand” that you had in a secret pack last year. It goes great with chocolate.

QOTD – Any good quality milk chocolate.

Gotta go with old skool HoHo’s back when they wraped them in real foil. Don’t know what they would have paired well with though besides 1% milk.

    Gary,

Little correction. Grenache would be most planted RED grape! I think the most planted grape period is Airén, also in Spain, mostly La Mancha to be used for their bulk wines.

QOTD. I just brought a 70% with coffee bits from Colombia that was pretty awesome!
