line of the day – ‘I feel like I just bit an engine and I’m not happy about it’

As usual I’m blown away by the blind tastings. This is what Winelibrary TV is all about and it’s even more fun when Gary gets surprised by a wine that stinks, such as the Burgundy on offer here. Great stuff

  • Top 20?

Wow I made top 20 on a holiday!

Burgundy disappoints yet again! & cool flashback, Mott!

QOTD — haven’t had a really excellent wine from Chile. Yet.

Love the blind tasting format… more! more!! MORE!!!

Always fun with the riedel sommeliers burgundy glass!

GV- you haven’t aswered my mail (sent about 6 months ago). Just wanted to say that you should try the wines from Aalto, ribera del duero on the show. great show otherwise! Although a few more episodes a week would be nice.

O.K. please test my theory#5 and #3 “Made the grade” are perhaps even good to great wines, but will you do another pinot brown bag, and take the 2006 Sojourn and pit it against 2005 or 2007 “Contestants”
Here’s my theory: 9 times out of 10 knowing nothing else (weather, water, sun) a odd year is better than an even year – yes, I KNOW it doesn’t make sense, but years of research… and all that! Now don’t get me wrong, if you told me “this 2002 XXX is fantastic and you gotta get some – DONE! but again, blind standing in the wine shop, I’ll pick an odd year! Let me know what you find out!
FANTASTIC show – I loved the blind taste test!

Thank you so much, Gary, for choosing my request! What an honor. (Even more so with your selection of Sojourn — it’s one of my very favorite Pinots.)

    QOTD: Root 1 Sauvignon Blanc

  • Love the blind tasting. Only request is NOT to link up the wine names before the reveal at the end. Keep it up!

  • Rick D

Really enjoy the blind tastings. Great to see the lower cost vino hittin’ it out of the park. I am all about QPR, especially in today’s economy!

QOTD: I’ve had a Carmenere that was very enjoyable, but I don’t recall the vineyard.

The Pinot from your Thanksgiving secret pack, Christophe Buisson, was really rockin, it just needed a couple of hours decanting to open up.

Great show. I really like the cross-region aspect. A lot of fun and good results.

I think you should make t-shirts that say: “I think this comes from somewhere un-traditional…like Nuits-St-George”

  • Hey Gary, really like the blind tests, it’s fun to see you surprised,
and I learn to really trust my own palette and not go by preconceived
notions, so really good stuff there.

  • Simon

    Great show; love the blinds!

QOTD: 2004 Amayna Pinot – I got into this a couple of years ago on a recommendation from my local wine store. Yes it’s a bomb, but it’s just so damn delicious. These guys (Viña Garcés Silva) also make a serious Sauv Blanc (and an interesting Barrel Fermented Sauv similar to Cloudy Bay Te Koko). They’ve also just started releasing their Syrah (in very small quantities) but sadly I’ve not had the pleasure.

  • Luden’s Cough Drops!

Great show I actually opened a 2003 Volnay Jean-marc and was drinking from my B.A.G. when the show came up in e-mail…great timing

QOTD: Without a doubt the best Chilian wine I’ve had is a Concha Y Toro Don Melchor

Great show the blind tastings always seem to throw in a curveball.

QOTD: It is not even close, Don Melchor!

The blinds are always fun to watch/ the tags popping up to tell us what’s in the bag kinda sucks, maybe you could add them a day or two later?

QOTD:2004 Vina Almaviva Puente Alto – Cab/Crmenere blend
