  • QOTD: That is awfully tough. I’m going to try and complete a big personal project that I’ve been wanting. Perhaps, as is said, crush it!

Hey Gary, love the show!! 6-month lurker, first-time poster.

I wanted to bring up the comment you made right before tasting the Pommard, you said “This isn’t the best glass, so it’s going to be a little tight”. I don’t think I’ve heard you talk about your thoughts on how different glass shapes and crystal or not can affect the taste of the wine. It would be interesting to hear your opinions on that subject.

QOTD: Working out a lot more and studying up on my Objective-C and Cocoa so I can write some iPhone apps and get rich!!

Another interesting show- so cool to just see who turns up in your life when you travel!

QOTD: Focus on keeping healthy, staying supportive, being open to the direction building/construction is going in, reaching out to help as many others as possible instead of circling the wagons and looking inward, and top it all off with a helluva vegetable garden!

  • Gary,

With Fat Tuesday next week, many of us will be eating paczkis. Any wine pairing suggestions? I tried a blackberry-filled paczki with an ’05 Shingleback Shiraz and i thought the odd combination was three layers of awesome, but I wanted to hear your thoughts.

Back to watching the eps in order…think i am on # 169 now. Thanks for your great insights!

Thanks for the great episode and the great question of the day.

my answer: I will continue to taste and learn about wine as much as possible and hopefully make a significant move within the business. I’ll also try to be the best person I can to everyone who’s a part of my life.

Bitchin show Gary! I like the quick blurb style of this show. I had a couple minutes to kill, learned a bit about 1992 and also learned how to pronounce Leroy. Thank you VERY much.

Kudos, guys! Alex, nice work, if you can get it….

Doubters and questioners as to the value, price, and other quantifiable notions on the wine (such as Igor, chad, and others above) should be made aware that the wine (person) in question here (Lalou Bizet Leroy) is from the family whom were the 50% owners of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, arguably the ‘greatest’ (most heralded, at least) property in all Burgundy. That is not, necessarily ‘the bestest’ to you, or I. But it is a true indication of what kind of noble, and exclusive company one is among. The greatest Burg to one guy will be Dujac. To another, it will be Potel, or that Piligny he had on his wedding anniversary. To many others, a Faiveley, or even Louis Latour.

But again, on this quality tier, of a very finite, extremely limited item,
the experience of encountering greatness such as this is (and it’s vintage/ageing progress) is one that any person seeking quality in life deserves. To a pro such as Gary, and an obvious wine lover such as Alex, it is required. When you get the opportunity to taste greatness, whether it is Phillipe Melka or Phillip Togni – you natually must take that step. Most often, you are rewarded. Sometimes, to a sublime degree, beyond words, and sometimes, sadly – nothing.

I have had to, on numerous occasions, spend monies not in my budget in order not to miss the singularly unique opportunity of the wine (food/other) which, otherwise, I’d never get a chance at again(especially when travelling). Even the couple of rare times that I could say I was a little dissappointed, I’d learned experience beyond what you learn in a hundred bottles of the same old world of common, everyday wines. DRC is like that. Classified Growth Bordeaux is like that. Grand cru wines of Champagne and Burgundy are like that. And top producer wines at 18, 25, and older vintages are like that.

Now, years later, down the pike, I can say why, of numerous occasions, I like Haut Brion better than Margaux. That DRC Rom St-Vivant was my favorite. That Midnight Oil is a monster.

I encourage you when the window is open, and the short opportunity presents itself, by all means, jump in, and experience it. THIS will certainly be as memorable as educational, and very likely, tasty.

  • This is the first wine video of you I’ve seen and what do I see? an iPhone in the mirror. Do you want me to hate you? 😀 Nah, I’m just jealous 😉 Havn’t hustle enough! But I think I watch more videos of your wine show, because I like your style. I don’t drink wine. Up to now 😉
