    QOTD:
I thought I was happy but now I’m not sure.
It appears I need to try and compare wine made using biodynamic pratices.

Thanks Gary for bringing us Nicolas Joly, “The Man”!
“The leading proponent of biodynamic viticulture”

    Thank You

    A wonderful 2 part show!

Not many people see wine as a process more than a product, and that is where we err.

QOTD: I am happy with the wines I drink because I look for rare gems. I am not entirely satisfied however, with wines that are made and marketed. There is so much bullcrap out there. It is up to the customer to demand good products by endorsing a sane and balanced philosophy, for that is a huge part of what wine is.

I’ve been watching since the 100’s and these last two episodes are far and away my favorite.

Excellent show (and series)!!! One of my all time favorites. Nicolas has a unique way of being an advocate for nature, and all things natural. Having been raised on a mono-cropping, land raping farm… this episode really hit home for me. I love it, and pledge to drink more biodynamic wines (wallet-willing).

QOTD: I am generally pleased with the kind of value that can be had in today’s market, and have been pleased with my drinking experiences. However, I am sorry to say that the truly inspirational wines and winemakers (like Nicolas) are simply out of reach for me. I understand that winemakers need to make bank like the rest of us, but I think it is sad that so many wines are made for the elite (thinking global scale, average daily income is less than any bottle on the show today!).

personal QOTD: Am I happy with the place of wine in our world today?
I consistently struggle with the wastefulness of wine (and most alcoholic drinks for that matter). To clear land for the production of an unnecessary product is just another form of excessiveness, and though it is delicious, I have questions regarding the responsibility of this practice. I waver on this topic weekly.

Just last week you asked for our favorite episode, I believe Jancis Roberson is now #2…
YES YES YES! drink white wine at room temperature and as long as you’re at it let your beer warm up.
QOTD: I will like the wine I am drinking (cellaring) a lot more in another decade, I prefer mature wines.
    Again, outstanding episode.

  • love the show –
to answer the question – My frustration is the more I learn of new wines – the difficulty of finding them to purchase locally increases. And I live in lower Manhattan. Do you recommend purchasing on line?

  • Gary, amazing WLTV episodes. Loved the interview with Mr. Joly. There were moments where I questioned which of the two of you have more energy and passion for what you’re doing. Episodes like this make me want to get into the wine world that much more.

QOTD: I’m happy with the wines I’m getting. Still trying a lot of things as my wine drinking range is pretty small given that I started drinking wines last year. Definitely liking this experience.

Fantastic episodes! Thank you so much, Nicolas for sharing your thoughts on wine and wine growing. It really made me think differently about the whole process.

QOTD: For the most part, I am happy with the wine I drink, but I do sometimes feel like some wines are too “manufactured” and fake instead of showing off the natural fruit they were derived from.

    Great episode.

QOTD: Almost always. I try to never approach any wine with any real expectations of what I think it should be, but rather I just let it be what it is so my relationship with it is rarely fraught with the dissappointed of failed expectations. And I also don’t usually chase after the heavily publicized “flavor of the month” type wines either. I know the types of wines I tend to appreciate the most and I’ve found a few reliable sources for them, so it usually works out.

  • I find that now, more than ever, I have a choice to pick from natural and terroir driven wines that make me more than happy. I am ecstatic! I just wish I had more free time and a bigger wallet.

Great episode and I hope that I meet this man one day.

Great show! Chenin Blanc (a Vouvay) was the wine that first opened my palate and began my journey to discover what is possible with grapes. I am wondering how long has his family planted Chenin Blanc at these site? What were they harvesting in the 12th century? Does Mr. Joly direct or control the fermentation in any way? First rate show!

  • That was incredible. I didn’t comment yesterday because I wanted to finish the entire thing. It was like watching you speak with one of my relatives. The whole milk thing solidified it for me that Nicholas is the real deal. My mother-in-law still uses milk on the house plants when the leaves turn color. When I hear people like him exist, it warms my heart.

QOTD: Am I enjoying the wines I’m drinking? Yes and no. Not all the time, but some of the times. Life is a balance, too much of a good thing would make the good thing ordinary. Profound.

Between you, Nicolas, and the wine, there’s an abundance of charisma! Who in their right minds would be unhappy with you for using that word in reference to wine? Superb episode/s. Really, superb. Inspirational.
